Brandon Marshall - WR - UCF

6'4" & 5/8ths - 230lbs - 4.45 40 yard dash

He will be the steal of this draft. I dont know if you guys know much about him, because UCF doesnt exactly get alot of national coverage... but the guy is a stud. He is huge and can physically dominate CBs. He is almost impossible to press... especially for smaller CBs. He is a short strider, so he is much quicker than most his size... and it allows him to get in and out of his cuts faster. Marshall is agressive when the ball is in the air and catches it with his hands and doesnt allow it to get into his body often... And he is great at using his big body to shield the ball from defenders. Also, he is fearless across the middle.

One thing hurting him is the fact that he didnt play WR his junior year. After the defense was devistated by injuries... B-Marsh was moved to safety in a "Troy Brown" type situation to help out. However, he led the defense that year in tackles.

Also, the scouts at the combine nicknamed him "Baby T.O." because of his similar size, quickness, and playing style. (Not to worry... Marshall is a great guy, it had nothing to do with off the field issues)

Right now he is projected to go in the 3rd... but I guarentee he will be a steal of this draft...

Dude blew up at the Hula Bowl and I've been checking him since. I totally agree that he will be the BEST WR in this draft in 3 years. He needs polish, but he an absolute stud. I've been hoping for him in the 4th round, but he is getting noticed more and more. I was saddened by him getting the nickname, just draws more attention to him.

I wrote about Marshall here a couple weeks ago when someone else brought up Jennings as a sleeper.

I saw Marshall play in person.....he definitely has the potential to be a productive player at the next level, mostly because of his size (6' 4.5"). Building on what you said, he switched to defense a couple years ago (safety) after O'Leary kicked some guys off the team and they had injuries. Then, he went back to WR this year and had a good year with a very average QB (Moffett).

In the Hawaii Bowl, Marshall caught 11 balls for 210, then followed it up with a good Hula Bowl All-Star game. Here's the link on him and his draft bio:

ya... I wanted to inform some of the people on this site, since most havent heard about him. He is pretty unknown unless you live in Florida. (like GvilleBill)

Ya, the guy is an animal. In the Hawaii Bowl(UCF's Bowl game), on the biggest stage he has ever been on... he had 11rec for 210 yards and 3TDs!

And then followed it up with a 130 yards and a TD in the Hula Bowl(like the Senior Bowl). Throughout that week, scouts and coaches loved him in practice. He was the best and most dominant player all week in practice and in the game as well...

BTW... What game did you see in person?

He looks like a future Pro Bowler, but we won't be able to take him. We have too many needs.

Actually, the worst game he had. At USF. But he did score a TD. Two of the guys I coach with played at UCF (one coached there, too) and told me about him before that game, so I paid some attention to him.

No. Check my avatar for my location. At any rate, my guess is he's a third-rounder. I see us going with a DL, 2 OL, and a S with our 1st-day picks.

I was at that game too... but I have absolutly no memory of it... I got so damn shitfaced for that game that I dont even remember going in the stadium... hahaha

And ya, UCF as a whole was pathetic that game... (so I was told... hahaha)

I'm kinda pissed I didn't hear of him a little earlier. Would've loved to have gone to UCF to see him. I worked on a roofing job just down Alafaya Trail from the campus, and it's not too long of a trip from here.

He would be a good fit anywhere... but especially wit teams that have faster, smaller WRs.

ps - I will break everything in my house if he becomes a Bill...

Yeah, he is a good prospect and not even full matured as a WR. The fact that he kept switching from safety to WR and back......he reminds of Matt Jones with his size and speed, and also with teh lack of true WR experience.

He is going to be the Chris Henry of this year's draft. Henry had 1st round talent and got bumped because of behavior problems and Bengals got a steal in him, and someone will take a chance on this kid in the 3rd round. Give him 2-3 years and he'll be have a good chance at being a very solid WR.

I completely agree with the Chris Henry comparison... in terms of a 1st round talent slipping to the 3rd... except he doesnt have character issues like Henry.

He is going to need a year or two to develop... but his upside and potential is incredible...

One of those needs is WR. If this kids there in the 3rd and we haven't already taken a WR, I say grab him.

Smith >>>>> Marshall

Mike Walker will be the next Marshall. He was drafted by the Jags in Rd 3 this past year. They put him on IR to fully rehab the knee injury he had in college, but he was competing for the #1 WR spot in TC before that. They KNOW they have a player on their hands...

UCF really seems to put some good players in the draft that are completely under appreciated.

Yep... they ALWAYS go lower than they are worth... simply because they didnt go to a big program. But we produce NFL players...

Another was Asante Samuel... who was a 4th rounder.

So what WR in this draft compares most favorably with Brandon Marshall??? Marshall was 6'4 230lbs and ran in the 4.4s... and is sure handed.

Anyone like that in this years draft?

I wonder if Notre Dame kicks themselves daily over the players that get turned up at UFC while their superstar recruits flame out.

No one, Brandon Marshall is the best WR evvvvvvver!

Hehe.

There are taller receivers, but we won't know the answer to the speed question until the combine, right now I think most 40 times are speculation.

The closest thing I would have imagined is Adarius Bowman, but I've read that while he makes highlight reel catches look like nothing, he has a tendency to screw up the easily catchable balls.

Why yes... he is the best WR ever. Jerry Rice who? j/k lol!!!

Ewwww about Bowman... sounds like Chambers all over again...

As for the taller WRs, who are they and how much do they weigh? Are they lanky or are they thick?

Jaison Williams, Oregon is a bigger version of Brandon Marshal. You may not here as much about him because he is out west but he is gooood.

Hell, lets get him AND Kelly! :)

If the guy really is there in the 2nd or 3rd, that would be a very wise way to address our need for size and redzone production at the WR spot. You also protect yourself against one of them turning out to be a bust. Lets face it, WR2 is a terribly important need for this team. It almost needs to be addressed if we're going to be a decent offense next year.

Reed and Parish won't be going anywhere, but they're not viable #2s when you need to score in a short field.
