Bills | Team focused on Bunkley?
Fri, 21 Apr 2006 13:04:26 -0700
ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Buffalo Bills sound as though they are focused on taking Florida State DT Brodrick Bunkley with the eighth pick in the first round of next week's NFL Draft. Oregon DT Haloti Ngata is too big and not quick enough for their new Cover 2 defensive scheme, which needs quicker defensive linemen. The Bills could be tempted to trade down a few spots if they get the right offer and still be in position to come up with Bunkley.
Whatever's Clever.

Never believe anything that comes out from a "team source" in the weeks before the draft.
Has Clayton been correct about any "scoop" he's reported about the Bills since TD left?
That being said, there are two ways to interpret this and both point toward the Bills taking a DT. If this is a smoke screen, they are trying to convince people that they won't take Ngata because they want him and don't want a team to jump over them to steal him, or it's true and they really do want Bunkley.

your a joke of a bills fan if you actually think another rookie qb is the answer...super teams are built from the lines out...you obviously have no clue on what makes a good football team...this team needs oline and dline help first and formost

manny i agree he is a great player, however the bills have bigger needs than another TE...if SF or GB doesnt take him id be very surprised...but we need dline and oline help and a DT is the best way to go

We were pathetic last year because we couldn't outscore our opponents.
Our biggest NEED is players who CAN SCORE TD's.

I dont think we have to worry about Davis even being on the board.
S.F. making that trade earlier in the week says to me there taking Davis w/ the 6th and taking the higest LB/CB on the board w/ there 22nd

They couldnt score TD's cuz McGhee had to break his first tackle behind the line of scrimmage and our QB's were throwing passes on the run or with a hand in their face.
I agree we need lineman, but I dont want us reaching for someone at 8.

davis is def. going to GB.. think about it.. They need to convince Favre to stay... get him a good weapon like that... he'll stay.. Taking Young is stupid.. we have TWO young qbs on the roster already.. Dont say neither can play b/c neither have had a solid opportunity too.. when JP was in the shotgun the defense was gettin to him almost as fast as the ball was... get him a line he'll be fine... Like everyone says.. get lines and you'll win games... look at the upper echelon teams in the league.. none of their qbs are taking a beating as much as ours... thats b/c they have an oline who can tie up the defense for more than a second... i'll take bunkley, huff, justice in a heartbeat. Huff simply b/c he is always by the ball and is a smart consistant db... Coy wire isnt an answer at safety so he could step in on day one. Same with Bunks.. he can step in on day 1 and contribute. Young is a friggin moron.. It wouldnt surprise me if he cant even write or spell his own name.. A 6 on the wonderlic score, terrible mechanics and a michael vick wannabe. And for the record, the wonderlic score is multiplie choice and 50 questions.. I could dial down the center on the scan tron or however they grade it and most likely get higher than a 6...

in theory, they're getting back ahman green and bubba franks. and maybe javon walker, or definetly some compensation for him.
the packers want d'brick before they want anybody. right now the packers are praying that the saints deal from the two spot to the jets. right now, the first 4 will be knocked down bush, mario, young/leinart. if the titans get leinart, the jets will likely go d'brick. if leinart is there though, greeen bay will jump all over him.

Wow, you just have no clue do you? Davis won't make much of a diffrent if Losmans on his back and we can't get the ball back. Your theory is shot for that reason alone.

Davis is going to San Fran.

They would be nothing more than luxury picks, and we don't have any of those this year. We have needs on both lines.

i already wanted bunkley over ngata from the start. 12% body fat = speed. 44 reps on the bench press = strength. ngata will be overweight in a few years and probably as a effective as mike williams was.

Did any of you Bunkley haters ever watch him play at FSU or see him at the combine? I watched almost all of the FSU games this past year and he Dominated the middle against Top compitition. He is a Physical Stud for his size. His motor never stops. He is great at penitrating and causing havoc behind the line as well as reading the run and stopping the run at the point of attack. He is in my opinion by far the best DT in the draft. I saw Ngata play 4-5 times this past year and saw him dominate at times, but also saw him look lost and get tired at times. I want Bunkley. Everyone who thinks we will draft V Davis is crazy. He will be gone at 5 or 6. If we draft anyone else besides Bunkley my 2nd choice would be Huff.

I watched a couple of FSUs highlights and all I was was the ball flowing to the middle cuz the outsides were Constantly being squeezed by outside pressure. He just waits for the ball carrier to run his way. Not impressed.

Ngata losing weight will still not bring him even close to the Physical Specimen that Bunkley is. The problem with him losing weight is he might always have weight issues. This reminds me too much of the Mike Williams pick even though Ngata is on the DL. I do not like Ngata at all. This is my opinion. Others may disagree but that will be there opinion. I will be so disappointed if we take Ngata at #8. I would rather trade down and get more picks.

Highlights will not tell you the story. FSU had a very fast Defense and Bunkley was the top guy on the FSU Defense. I watched 8-9 FSU games in full and Bunkley stood out over any player on FSU with his great playmaking skills. He caused havoc on QB's and RB's. I think you have to gameplan against Bunkley when you play him. I do not know what highlights you watched, but I hardly ever saw him just standing around waiting for the play to come to him. I think you were watching the wrong team or player.

You're right. Bunkley demands a double team. He's a force in the middle for sure.

I'd take Vernon Davis over Bunks in a heartbeat. Sorry. He is just a fantastic athelete that you cannot pass up.
But Bunks is no slouch. I am an FSU fanatic and have not missed watching a game in years. And I'll tell you. Bunks is the real deal. Fantastic player. And damn is he quick!!!!
Bunks would still be a great pick.

You can be quick all you want but once a lineman engages you, what are you going to do?? Ngata's known for beating double teams, Bunkley's known for being quick and getting to the QB. I'd take the former. Cuz I don't think we brought Tripp in to get run over with this 'quick penetrating line.'

April 23rd, 2006, 4:28:35 PM
I got a question???
The Bills are set at one defensive tackle spot with free-agent signee Larry Tripplett, a quick, 285-pounder who penetrates the backfield. Tripplett plays the "three technique," which means he lines up opposite the outside shoulder of a guard. The other defensive tackle, who likes up over the center, ideally is a guy who is bigger than Tripplett but still can attack the line of scrimmage. A two-gap nose tackle, like behemoths Ted Washington or Tony Siragusa, is not a perfect fit for the Tampa-style defense, popularized by current Colts coach Tony Dungy.http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060422/1021607.asp
So what made Sapp so successfull, doesn't Ngata draw comparisons to Sapp's quickness?? Ted's strength? It would be foolish not to take such a talent.

If you can get Brick, Mario, Hawk or Davis you have to take them. Otherwise you trade down, pick up some more picks and get Bunkley.

I would not take any source as being correct this close to the draft.
Every team is in full bluff mode right now.
I just hope the Bills pick someone that pays immediate dividends. Now when you have a top 10 pick that should be a given. Excluding another Mike Williams type of player.
Huff , Davis, & Bunkley are fine with me.
I doubt if Davis will be around. However, if he is take him in a heartbeat.
I don't care how many TE's are on the team. None of them have the tools this kid has.
