why?

(1) DT is our greatest need. I can't picture us starting Anderson at the beginning of the season.
(2) OL isn't as big of a priority in Rd #1 - Our two LTS are okay - Gandy is serviceable and Peters has a chance to be very good. We can pick up a very good guard in rd #2 and/or Rd #3 or sign that guy from Carolina.
(3) Marv is all about character and you don't get better than Ngata.
(4) Something I haven't seen mentioned - Marv loves special team guys and Ngata is a great special team player - blocking 2 kicks last year and 5 in 3 years.
(5) Marv is smart enough to know you win and lose via your lines. Where Donahue would make the sexy pick of Davis or Huff, Marv makes the smart pick - DL
(5) Ngata not fitting perfectly into our system is overrated. A solid runstopper can be implemented into any system.

Now, if by some miracle d'Brick falls to us, we snap him up - he is a lineman which fits into the category described Above. As for Justice - he would be a reach and he is a natural RT (protecting Leinart's blind side). Our future at RT is Peters and the last time we took a RT high, it didn't work out too well. Bunkley is intriguing, but I just think Ngata is better.

Thoughts?

Ngata will not be our pick.

Why?

Cuz even Marv knows better than that.

I had a friend of mine who is a huge Oregon fan send me copies of all of the Oregon games from the past year, and I watched all of them, fast forwarding to all defensive drives.

Ngata is a good player, but he's not top 10 IMO and if we pick him at 8, I'm going to be very upset.

No argument about Bunkley...he will be the pick if we go DT..He fits the SYSTEM WE ARE RUNNING BETTER than does Ngata. I have not seen a mock that has not changed from us getting Ngata(the early on pick) to getting Bunkley(the pick now and the better system fit).

I used to live in the Bay Area, and it's a great place with so much to do, and you're at home watching Oregon defensive tapes? Go in to SF and have some fun..

Thoughts?that's my argument for those talking about penetration. The guy is fast enough, with the ability to get off the ground!, and block a kick.

Don't listen to those who want the glamour pick.

Ngata is a very solid pick.
