Well, this SUCKS.

UPDATE:
A developer's decision to pull out of plans to renovate the Wendt Mansion means that Wendt Beach will not be open this year, officials said Tuesday.

"The beaches will not be open," said Erie County Parks Commissioner Angelo Sedita, who addded that park and its soccer fields will remain open to the public. "The beach will not be staffed with lifeguards. That was the only hope to shake some money loose to open the beaches."

The county's Bennett Beach also will not be open.

Precision Park Services planned to invest as much as $2 million to restore the mansion and other facilities and create a bed-and-breakfast concession on the county park grounds.

The plan included charging $3 - either per car or per person - to raise about $65,000 to pay for lifeguards. But with the mansion plan gone, so are plans to open the beach.
