View Full Version : OK, who wants to chime in on McKee going knee to knee?

In the first period Jay McKee and Jeff O'Niell got into it a little bit. O'Niell came back across the blueline and tried to avoid McKee. McKee stuck out his leg and hit O'Niell in the leg. Was this a cheap shot? Everyone wanted to see the Sabres take Tucker's head off yesterday because of his cheap shot. Is it only a cheap shot if someone is hurt on the play?

Peters going after Kaberle, a finesse player, is pretty cowardice.

Kinda like Tucker going after the rookie finesse player Vanek, right?

I have the game on DVR - I'll have to watch it again.

it definitely happened it was right at the start of the game and O'neill slashed connolly right after. I didnt' bring it up because i know most of you will deny it and say it never happened. It was virtually identical to the Tucker hit which i didn't think was a big deal either.

O'neill was a scrappy brat last night. I wonder if that's what set him off. He was one of the only Leafs players to play with any emotion last night. The entire team was more concerned with setting up Sundin for his 30th goal than they were with winning the game...
Sundin has always had a cannon for a shot though. That was fun to watch him cranking away. Miller was flawless though. Confident.

Watch McKee get suspended now...

he won't get suspended. It was a nothing play, just like tuckers.

How about Domi pulling McKee's hair?

yeha that was great, Mckee wouldn't fight domi anyway.
Domi is the king at that stuff, he loves the facewash.

Ahhh yes, the King of being an idiot.
Domi is a has-been and should of retired 5yrs ago.
And McKee would fight Domi, I've never seen him back down from anyone. Mabey the fact that he is recovering from a badly broken nose has something to do with it. Domi would know what that is about after his lack-lustre effort vs. McGratton.
Enjoy your extended summer.

I watched it at the time and my first reaction was "Jay, what are you doing!?"
But on rewinding the Tivo, it was a different play than that girl Darcy.
1. McKee and O'Neill were going at it. It's not like McKee got waxed and went after someone different.
2. There was no "other" intent to injure - McKee wasn't going for the killshot elbow to the head.
3. O'Neill was more nifty and slid aside (Jay ain't the slickest skater out there), McKee appeared to throw his leg out there as a reflex. He most certainly was going straight at O'Neill and just threw the knee out in response to O'Neill slipping away from him.
Now, all that said, is the "throw your knee out there" maneuver bad for the game? Yeah, I believe so. I believe McKee should easily earn a minor for it. But because there was obviously no overt attempt to injure, nor an additional attempt, nor attacking a third party in response to some perceived insult... Jay's is nowhere NEAR what that ****ing woman Darcy did.

lol, i love it. Mckee's was an accident and Tuckers wasn't. Classic homer fans right there. They were both dirty plays , gimme a break. Mckee was pissed because o'neill nailed him a few times. He goes right after o'neill and hits him from behind, then when o'neill trys to skate by him he stuck out the knee on purpose. They are the same thing, its called frustration.

No doubt bduff. How about this, Tucker wasn't trying to hit Hecht in the knee, that was an accident. The head shot is a different story. If Hecht isn't hurt, nobody talks about the hit to the head, that's hockey. McKee reached out with his knee to hit O'Neill. If anything, McKee's attempt was worse. Your argument holds little to no water. Most of you cried in here that Tucker tried to give him a cheap shot, but won't say anything about last night.

thank you pigskin, too many guys on this board think all the sabres are perfect. when i called out some of them for diving after admitting Domi and Tucker are the worst in the league many of the people just claimed they had no idea what i was talking about.

Hey bduff, give it a rest. I provided an explanation far more than simply excusing it, including calling for a penalty. But if you don't see the difference between McKee and what that shitty reputation woman Darcy did you're the homer, not us.

there is no difference, they are the same thing. Actually they are almost identical. They both got nailed, couldn't handle it then did something dirty and sneaky. I admit that about tucker, will you about mckee?

McKee went after the person that hit him.
Tucker went after Hecht, and Old'Neill went after Connolly.
That speaks a lot to the character of the individuals involved.

o'neill didn't go after connolly,it was a slash on the stick. nothing special. If he went after him connolly would be conussed again.

bduff, why do you post here? I've put up with your crap for a long time and haven't said anything because you seemed to be different than all the childish leaf fans that come to the games in Buffalo. But now you're acting just like all the other embarassing leaf fans.
If you're a bills fan, post in the bills forum. If not, why post here and defend your team and make stupid comments? what's the point? I'm sure they have lots of leafs forums you can go to and project what major UFA signings you'll make for next season's run to the cup.

I don't get it Drury81. I said Tucker is dirty and when the same thing happens to a leaf nobody wants to discuss it.

I'm referring to all your posts today and last night, not just this thread. What's the point? This is a Sabres forum. If you're going to post here, either be a Sabres fan or be a hockey fan and take off your Maple Leafs glasses.

fair enough, its your opinion. I have not said anything to defend the leafs.
I said peters is a joke and i said mckee's hit was similar to the one that everybody went nuts over.
Where are my leaf glasses with thos 2 statements.
I also said the leafs blew it and congratulated the Sabres on a great year.
I will always speak my mind

You're also sure Tucker is a great character guy in the locker room.
How is a guy you admit does wrong things with intent to injure such a guy?

because his teammates love him, when he scores a goal his teammates are all over him. you can tell he has earned their respect. He plays hurt, he plays tough 99% of the time. It's the 1% when he does something stupid that gets the attention.

Who cares. Everyone had to expect a chippy game and we crushed them so the end result was great.

I didn't see McKee's hit, but if it was a blatantly intentional knee then he should've received a suspension, just as Tucker should have when he kneed Hecht.
I'm of the opinion that if you intentionally try to injure another player you should be suspended...if you succeed in hurting the player, then you should be suspended for as long as that player's injury lasts.
Of course, this will never happen, which is a shame because this league needs it's stars to keep the excitement level high, yet so many of these guys miss a significant part of the season due to cheap shots from less talented players.

I can remember when Varada was a key part of the Sabres and how much other teams hated him because he was perceived to be a dirty player. We loved having him on our team...and now we miss him. It would be the same way if Tucker or Kasperitis were wearing a demonic goathead on his jersey.
This would probably be a good time to point out how much the Sabres miss that type of player...Mair was the only guy that came close and now he's gone.
I kinda miss Varada. He didn't bring much offensively, but there were many nights where he looked like a 16-pound ball hitting the pocket at just that right angle...BAM!!
