Who does that guy think he is? It was a funny move but coming from that guy it is pathetic. He has contributed nothing to the Sabres success and has never played a playoff game in his career. what a joke. GM's don't like that kind of thing, he could be out of the league soon.

not at all, i thought it was funny but the guy won't even play in the playoffs. Who is he to do that? Mckee or somebody with some talent should have done it. How many times have you seen that before? i never have and the leafs have played the sabres tons of times when the sabres were well out of it.

I thought it was funny.
Think of it this way. That guy is living a dream. He has very limited talent for an NHL player. He gets paid a prety good salary for only playing in 30 - 40 games a season. He gets to beat people up for a living. What is wrong with him enjoying himself? If he never plays another NHL game he can at least say he made it to the big time even if it was only for a little while. I don't think he would be disappointed with his career if you asked him.

I agree it was bush league and uncalled for. But unfourtunalelty you have to expect that kind of thing from a player like Peters.
Domi has done some outrageous things in his day. Remember when he squirted that fan with the water bottle? That was funny. Didn't the guy fall in the penalty box after that?
beTough54
April 16th, 2006, 8:43:19 PM
Peters actions didn't put anyone in the hospital, unlike Tucker's actions anyways.
He totally owned the Leafs, it was hilarious. The shot of the Leafs bench after he did was ****ing priceless.

yeah healey is a leaf fan, its embarassing.
I just didn't like it. Belak offered to fight him and he turned it down to the golf swing. Domi is scum and tucker is scum, thats not the point.
I am discussing this particular act and i think it was bush league. Things like that turn into Bertuzzi/moore incidents. My main problem is with the guy who did it. he will never play a playoff game in his life.

Don't forget that there is something about players getting fighting majors with under 5 minutes to play. I think they get suspended and the coach gets fines. Not sure though but I remember something like that happening to Brashier.

Amd speaking of defending themselves, I suppose Tucker's actions against Hecht was defending himself and was well deserved after he got clobbered by GREIR.

Check it out if you have Tivo or whatever. Peters didn't have the cute little tent protecting him like Domi did.
Or a Center Ice tivo-er could help with it.
I would bet my membership on the Range on it, but well, I don't think you have that to offer in a bet anymore ;)

Like I said in another thread, it's not the classiest thing a player has done, but mocking a golf swing is better than what I was worried would happen, which was Peters or somebody doing what Bertuzzi did. Tucker clearly hasn't changed his game; vide what he did to Alfredson last night. The last thing I wanted was for Peters to crunch somebody, then Tucker taking out Connolly or Briere at the knees.
Yes, it wasn't great sportsmanship, but the Sabres got their tweak at Tucker and Co., and now everyone has the offseason to chill about it.

Duff, were you refering to my comment? If so, that wasn't my point. What I was trying to make reference to was Tucker's m.o. He did a bit of a cheapy to Alfredsson when his team was up 5-1. I was worried what would happen when his team was down 6-0 in a visiting team's rink full of fans and players who are still royally p.o.'d at him. If the worst thing to happen was Peters' Tiger Woods impression, then I can be ok with that.

Yes all places have scum fans but to single out RWS AND to DENY that Leaf fans spit on Peters IN HSBC, and then whine about a goon that states the obvious about the Leafs, and still backs up a scum player only points to one thing.

I am going golfing with some Maple Leafs!!
my girlfriend always laughs when she sees the Leafs jerseys (the alternate white one) where the leaf sort of looks like a marijuana leaf. I think it is funny too because it really does look stupid. They need to come up with a sweet new logo or something for Toronto.
Peters cracks me up. He always messes with people and I really believe he is one of the most dangerous (literally) players in the NHL. The guy is cool as hell but when you mess with him he really goes nuts on whoever gets in his way. He has an awesome way of pissing people off too. His flair and attitude is hilarious. Peters has showmanship and acknowledges the crowd.
I hate how all the Leafs fans are in the Arena but it is also funny that we use it to our advantage because our crowd really shows up too. Good times, I need to get to one of the Leafs games next year.
Golfing gesture - It was a slap in the face for sure but that is how hockey is sometimes.
Sabres at HSBC Arena vs. the Leafs in 05/06 - 4 wins, 0 losses

I thought it was funny initially. But I wouldn't want my teammate doing that. Winners don't neet to gloat. And I guaruntee you, we won't see Peters again until next season. He's got a real long time to think about his last shift on the ice. He would have enjoyed it a lot more if he was on the bench with the rest of his mates as the final horn blew.
This game displayed the size of the gap between franchises though....This Sabres team skates circles around that Leaves team. It was pretty hilarious all game how much the Sabres out-classed them in every facet of the game, save the Peters gloating.

While Peters' move may not have been classy, Lindy in the post game press conf. said he would do nothing about it. He mentioned the leafs rubbing it in when they won 7-0 a few weeks back. I don't have a problem with it, every time there was a scrum the Leafs were sucker punching and throwing elbows, Peters picked a nice non-violent way to even the score.

Yeah, I agree. He knew it was inside 5 minutes, and considering the circumstances, if anything serious happend with in the last 5 minutes of that particular game, Ruff probably would have gotten a suspension as well. I mean the league met with him the day of the game.
Not worth it with the playoffs a game away. He was smart not to fight.....Stupid new rule.

Then how do you explain the Sens meltdowns in past playoffs? They had some of the best players then as well. Having the best players guarantees nothing if they don't play well and get run and don't do anything about it.
Ask the Rangers before the cap--they bought some of the best players and missed the playoffs entirely.
I totally believe that a team standing up to another team has a huge effect on morale and can pump them up/wake them up or even give them confidence to win a game.

LET THE LEAFS POSTMORTEM BEGIN
Buffalo delivers indignity after Tampa snuffs out Toronto's hopes the night before
TIM WHARNSBY
From Monday's Globe and Mail
BUFFALO — Andrew Peters, a fourth-line player with two goals in 70 career games, delivered one final act of humiliation to the Toronto Maple Leafs in their lost weekend and season.
With Toronto already reeling from being mathematically eliminated from postseason contention on Saturday and about to suffer an embarrassing 6-0 loss last night, the Buffalo Sabres' enforcer made a golfing motion with his hockey stick at the Leafs to signify they won't be in the National Hockey League playoffs for the first time since coach Pat Quinn took over the Leafs in 1998-99.
Quinn and most of the Leafs claimed they never saw Peters's improvisation, which cost him a 10-minute misconduct. But it definitely wasn't a pleasant feeling.
"You live to play in the playoffs," Toronto forward Darcy Tucker said. "It's like your heart is ripped out."

Actually, SabreGirl, the biggest reason for the Sens' meltdowns was goaltending, pure and simple. Neither Patrick Lalime or Tom Barasso (blast from the past...yikes!) could cut the mustard in the playoffs. It's why I'm curious to see how Hasek or Emery do against the Canadiens (likely opponent).
I'm still curious to see how a bruiser like Peters will be used in the playoffs, if at all. I'm betting that the crashing and banging will be done more by Gaustad and McKee than by Peters.

I agree that goaltending did play a (big) part, and I shouldn't have just said that the only problem was lack of hitting. That said, the Sens were beaten up by the teams that they played. They were not physical and it cost them. The playoffs (in the past) were pretty rough and I believe that kept them off their game. It changed the way they played their game. They went from dominating teams w/ finesse to being the target of hits and checks that took them off balance.
I do believe that a hard played physical game can change the momentum to minimize the talent of the teams with better talent, but no brawn.
Just my opinion...
