If they could do it to Alexander the Great they could do it to Bush..

IMO, they are going to get allies, and we will no longer be the only superpower after all this..

You can't say we don't deserve it either..We should of left them with the Mohammad Mossadegh government in the 50's. That way they could of lived their pathetic lives, and not interfere with us..

Iran and the Middle East has been a Hot bed of Death since the beginning of time, I dont see that changing anytime, soon. Pull our troops out, set them on our borders, and leave the world to itself.

Complete unsubstantiated conjecture. Without any basis. Sounds almost like wishful thinking from you.

Go to "Can I ask you liberals an honest question?" thread. You are needed there.

What people don't understand is that Amandasdaddysjob is intentionally egging on Israel and the US. He's BETTING that Israel will strike his nuclear facilities, starting an escalation no one can control, dragging in Pakistan, India, and others.

He needs a nice .50 caliber bullet to the forehead.

And guess what Stealth, we put him in office. Putting 150,000 troops on Iran's border and putting them in the "Axis of Evil" with Iraq caused a fundementalist backlash.

****ing bullshit neo-conservative idiotic madness. The arguement was, if we go into Iraq, Iran and the rest of the region will cower cause they amy be next. No, it was a call to arms. And every time a war is on the horizon thje paranoid crazies come out of the wood work and take power. We shouldn't have invaded Iraq, and we should have used to CIA to swing the last Iranina election towards democratic reformists. They exist in Iran, a democracy would work there. But no, Big stick no carrot.

deriliction of duty

CIA fixing a mid eastern country's election away from fundamentalists... Oh yeah that would work. Just like Iraq.

The fundamentalist nutjobs in Iran were heading for power before we entered Iraq. Their previous government wasn't the most stable in the world, and while the Invasion of Iraq was PART of the election results, a much larger part was the influence wielded by the clergy in Iran, who pretty much screwed themselves into having this guy as president. The country's reform movement would have NOTHING to do with Rafsanjani, but the clerics eliminated almost all reformist candidates. So the votes went to Ahmadinejad.

He became popular for several reasons. Yes, one of them was his tough anti-west, anti-Israel stance. But from what I've read, his stance against corruption and his position on easing poverty were even more important. I suspect he would have been elected whether we were in Iraq or simply still bombing it under UN mandate.

In fact, now that we have Iran pursuing, actively, a nuclear weapon, one could argue that being in Iraq puts us in a position of greater power to deal with the threat, since we have their nation on both sides and can hit them relatively easily.

Internal factors in Iran were a larger factor in electing this guy than the US presence in Iraq. Your bias is clouding your judgement.

That said, you are correct that we need to be supporting the reform movemet in Iran actively and completely. We need to enable the people who want to overthrow this freak to do so. But I suspect we will find the Iranian people care less about freedom than they do about religious zeal.
