Joe Mesi was knocked out by journeyman Ron Bellamy at 1:15 of round 3. Joe drops to 29-1 and this hurts his career big time.
On a happier note, Happy late April fools, MESI WIN 8 BELLAMY...UNANIMOUS DEC. @ per WGR 55

Things went well. Jack Mesi thinks Joe won every round, hasn't seen the scorecards yet. Joe should be able to go again in another 30-45 days.

Joe Mesi is going to hurt himself.
He's NEVER going to be a legitimate contender for the heavyweight throne, even in this sad era of heavyweight boxing.
Anyone who saw the Monte Barrett fight &/or Vassily Jirov fight knows he's not world class.
Guys like Samuel Peter, Lamon Brewster, Sergei Lyakhovich, Hasim Rahman, James Toney, Calvin Brock, & Wladimir Klitschko would clean his clock.
By the way, anyone see Lyakhovich beat the hell out of Brewster last weekend?
Another one-sided affair, just like his previous fight against Dominic Guinn.
He may be on the rise.

If Mesi ever gets back his form I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with Brewster.
Klitschko would clean his clock (ofcourse with his history one shot on Wlad's chin could change that).
Peters is so unimpressive since he stepped up his competition that it's been sad.
Toney could out box anyone out there, but he is the laziest son of a bitch I've ever seen.
I haven't see Brock or Lyakhovich fight if you can believe that so I don't have an opinion.
Rahman...he's big so he would give Mesi lots of trouble, but he couldn't land anything bigger than a jab against a fat, tired, and hardly trying Toney.
Brewster is a terrible boxer who lucked his way to the title against Wlad and his only impressive deffense was against a HORRIBLY overrated Golata.

They haven't fought as pro's, have they?

Klitschko does have a questionable jaw but he's made strides recently. Mesi would have to get close enough to land a big right. Unfortunately, I don't see him effectively avoiding Wlad's jab while simultaneously moving in, especially since Wlad has really improved his defense & awareness under Emmanuel Steward. Also, the fact that Wlad withstood Peter's power tells me he can handle Mesi's power as well.
Peter was impressive against Taurus Sykes & almost knocked out Wlad, but he's not much of a boxer. Which is going to hurt him if he can't get an early round KO. His last fight against Robert Hawkins was a snoozer. Still, he's a challenger for a belt.
As for Toney, I really wish he'd show up in better shape. The guy has the best hands in the division, but he's not doing himself a service by failing to shed all those rolls that slowed him down against Rahman.
I haven't see Brock or Lyakhovich fight if you can believe that so I don't have an opinion.
Calvin Brock may be the real deal. He's a bit lethargic at times but the dude has some power. And he's a much better boxer than most power punchers (IE: Tua, Peter, Sanders). You may want to search for a video of his KO of Zuri Lawrence. Absolutely frightening. You'll also see that he can box a little, he's not one-dimensional.
Lyakhovich ain't bad either. He made Dominic Gunn & Lamon Brewster look like amatuers, & both of those guys are above average.
Brewster is a terrible boxer who lucked his way to the title against Wlad and his only impressive deffense was against a HORRIBLY overrated Golata.
Brewster had a fight against Luan Krasniqi that was only aired in Germany recently. He was behind on the cards but managed to knock him out in usual Brewster fashion. A late, out-of-nowhere, lights out hit. He's still a wildcard in the division since he can punch & seemingly never gives up.

Sorry, I was typing to fast. I meant Monte Barrett. It was a close entertaining fight and I'm curious to see if Barrett figured out Mesi in the later rounds or if as team Mesi claimed Joe tired because an injury stopped him from trainning properly.
