At one point early on, Mike Grier had 2 successive shots stopped by Thomas, the 2nd of which he held on to. Then the sound system played a bit of the Rolling Stones song "Paint it Black" for about 5 secs. Was that a poor shot at Grier, or some coincidence? Maybe because their Unis are black? It just seemed odd, and they quickly shut it off to go to the organ. I have it recorded, and sent emails to the League, the B's, and the Sabres inquiring.

Sorry I missed it (I was at a party and the sound was off) but I do remember a Rumun Ndur fight in the late nineties where while the players were skating to the box the arena was playing the song "Soul Man." I believe the Sabres sent a letter to the team and league regarding the poor taste in music. Perhaps someone remembers the team we played.

I have a feeling they have the song for the next stoppage in play selected well in advance, before the stoppage in play actually happens.

I'm thinking coincidence.

You should cite what norwoods said in a follow-up/reply Hurls.

I don't think a team would want to/or could do that.

Personally im upset with the fact that the Sabres used to play Wooly bully when Jason Woolley scored.

I get PO'd when the Sabres play cotton-eyed Joe. I have a cotton eye and I find that song very offensive.

WTH is a "Cotton Eye" anyways? And why's Joe so famous for having it?

It's possible. You hear them trying to match the music all the time to what's going on down on the ice. As far as queueing it up ahead of time, I doubt that, given the technology they use, they are probably one or two button clicks away from whatever song they want.

wow what a dumb thread. If you're offended by paint it black and youre writing emails to everyone in the league, you need to get a life and stop the liberal BS.

i highly doubt it was on purpose, if so they would be fired.

I do find it odd that people call Kevin weeke's shady 80. They even say it on TV. you type those 2 words in google and his stats come up.

Never know, could be some deuche bag up in the box. Depends if it s a song they usually play during a game, seams like the same songs play at the same arenas during every game

i don't know hurls, i think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill on this one. Paint it black is a classic and is played often, i highly doubt it meant anything at all.

So why did they cut it off?

Perhaps the realized that it might upset some people, afterwards. I can't imagine anyone doing that, it's just stupid. I don't think, well, I hope it had nothing to do w/ his skin....

i think some of you guys are a bit too sensitive, paint it black was probably on and they wanted to switch it up. I bet it has nothing to do with grier. I am amazed that anyone even noticed that, the shady 80 thing is way more stange to me.

they regularly cut songs short to go into an organ song. nothing unusual about that

But 'Jungle Love' actually means a black person is involved. The song is about a sexy black woman.

'Paint it Black' has nothing to do with black people in any sense.

True. You hear them trying to match what's happening on the ice often. But not nearly as often as when they play something that has absolutely nothing to do with what just happend on the ice.

I think it was a track they had pre-selected during play, it happend to be Grier that got stoned by Thomas when they played it, they may have realized it was possibly offensive given the circumstance (which I think is a joke anyway) and cut to the organ to possibly save face from anyone anal enough to notice.

anybody that is offended by that is just being ridiculous in my opinion, i bet you mike grier didn't even notice. The song has nothing to do with anything.

How about this....the next time Drury scores with an assist from Grier or vice versa, they play "Ebony and Ivory" by Sir Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder. Would anyone be offended by that?

Everyone should know that Paint It Black refers to the Steelers' physical play painting the enemy's helmets with black as they crush them on to victory.
