The Sabres Suck 5-3. and it hasn't improved all season long. Actually scoring goals is one thing, but let's start small Lindy. Get the damn thing set up.

I know. Its just the fact that you cant have it all and this team is far exceeding expectations so its tough to swallow the negativity when they're Top 5 in both PP & PK.

Maybe it's just me personally, but whether it's philosophy, or positioning, or whatever, there's no excuse for not getting shots, or even be able to mantain posession in the offensive zone when one team has 5 skaters and the other has 3. And if you haven't noticed, not being able to take advantage of 5-3 PP has hurt this team more than once this year. A couple times now during this 5 game losing streak.

Actually we're like 0-22 on our last 22 pp's so since we're not that great 5 on 5 when the pp is not going good, we're in trouble.

I've noticed the opponent's penalty killers have been more aggressive on the puck carrier recently.

yeah jeaff i noticed that too around the league in General. It seems that teams are just pressuring the puck carrier and forcing them into mistakes.

I think they need to get Kotalik out on the first unit. That would definitely give Briere & co. more room to move down low.

Agreed! Teams killing a Sabres penalty lately are really running a lot of pressure on the puck handler, and stacking the blue line when we're trying to make the zone. It's really frustrating to watch.

Teams play agrresive on the PK against us. I see too much finesse/dancing to get into the zone. We have the speed to dump and chase on the PP. It seems when we're up 2 men, theres too much confidence we will make somthing happen. Get it in the zone, pass to the point and fire away.

I dont care if we are far exceeding expectations or not, if this doesnt turn around and we get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, the whole season will just be one big dissapointment, I am suprised just as much as the rest of you that we are where we are, i am really just hoping this is a small skid that every team goes through but as far as the 5 on 3's what are we trying to do, shoot the damn puck, yeah we have been good by being patient but with a 5 on 3 you have to just start firing pucks and send guys to the front, out number the D and bang it home, come out with a goal and the powerplay

I hear you pigpen. That's a serious problem right now....You can't have a 5 on 3 and not score when the chips are down.
Honestly, I think this team is missing their secret weapon and its Jochen Hecht. He brings so much more to the powerplay and 5 on 5, this team is wheeling without his presence in those situations.

A few weeks ago everyone was jumping on those who say Shoot the puck, now its wanting to be shot. You cant have it both ways. More shots with forwards in front creating traffic is the formula for success on the PP. 5 on 3 they are not firing, they're attempting too many mismatches instead of crashing and playing the numbers.

All very excellent points and all true.
Remember how successful we were when we just skated hard on net and took some shots? Campbell was the king of end-to-end play and getting a good shot on net. Very intimidating to just barrel into the other end wristing a strong shot on goal. keeps the other team off-balance. When they do that, they seem to score, or, at the very least, have a better chance to score from a big, fat rebound.
