Orange Nation

I'm not sure if anyone actually realizes what GMAC has done so far in this tourney.
This whole thing is really fascinating. It's become one of the greatest sports stories of the year. GMAC has risen to cult-hero status, nationally in just 48 hours. We've seen unprecedented national media coverage, NYC media coverage, Syracuse fan base frenzy/mayhem, etc.
There have been many big shots in college basketball history but no player or situation (multiple games) has ever caused a frenzy quite like this. At least not that I can think of.
Hell, when he hit 6 three's to help win the national Championship, that didn't even get him this much attention. This is UNREAL.
He was a borderline legend before this tourney. Now, he is THE legend. No other SU player in history has a story to tell that matches GMacs.

It'll be such a great story when he goes 3-18 in a first round NCAA loss though.

This is such a fun and totally unexpected ride. The guy is a winner down to his core. When people talk about heart of a champion and refusing to lose from now on they should reference G-Mac in this year's tournament.
BTW, the only other SU player I can think of that came close to doing what G-Mac is doing this year in the tournament was Pearl Washington in 1984.

Georgetown's 82-71 overtime victory over Syracuse in the 1984 championship game rates as one of the best BIG EAST Tournament games ever played. Ewing won MVP honors but Pearl - Syracuse's Dwayne Washington - captured the city with his play. Any other year, and the Orangemen might have won. That happened to be the year that the Hoyas went on to capture the national championship.
"One of the best games I've ever seen. Pearl's performance against Georgetown was amazing,'' said Boeheim. "(Georgetown's) Gene Smith was probably one of the two best defensive guards this league has ever had. For Pearl to score 28 in that game was like scoring 60 against anyone else

I was looking around last night to see Patrick Ewing, Sherm, Billy Owens, Dikembe, Rony Seikaly, Zo, and Stevie Thompson. It was a classic Cuse/G'Town Old School Big East battle.
Then....the camera shows Pearl in the stands and D.C. and Lawrence Moten come out on the court after the game to congratulate G-Mac and the boys! Good stuff!
A great, great week for the Big East conference!

He was sitting on the bench with a hurt groin that just wasn't letting him do his thing, an injury he forced himself to play and shine through last weekend. In the long run though (the long run being last night), playing on it 4 days straight days last weekend was not good for this week.

What a horrible, horrible way to go out. It sucked watching that. For Syracuse and for Gerry.
But when it's all said and done, he'll still be regarded as one of the best to ever wear the uniform in the Dome.
