With the Jets seeming set at QB w/Pennington resigned and now showing interest in Ramsey, Kiper et al are saying they think the Jets will take Ferguson. Williams, the Peppers-like DE out of NC, said the Packers seemed to be showing the most interest, indicating he'll be taken 5th. If the top 5 goes:
1. Hou: Bush
2. N.O.: Leinart
3. Tenn: Young
4. Jets: Ferguson
5. GB: Williams
Then what? AJ Hawk or Cutler to the Raiders at 6. What do the Niners do? Take Hawk? And the Bills are on the outside looking in, in desparate need of an OL or DL. And everyone has them still taking Ngata...not sure about his motor.
Let's see...

The 49ers have the 6th pick and they will take Hawk or Williams
I also think we cant count on Young going in the top 5 anymore

If all else fails huff is a great selection at number 8, obviously super mario, d'brick or even hawk would be sweet, and most have us taking Ngata, there will be someone there to take. Huff was very impressive in the rose bowl playing against some NFL caliber competition.
even if we traded down and got hali, or bunkley and some more picks, we are still filling team needs, bunkley looks solid.

Young is not a lock at #3. Recent concerns not only include his Wonderlic score, whether 6 or 16, but also reports that Texas had to radically simplify his reads at Texas for him to be effective. Tennessee could go with D'Brick. That might push the Jets to take Mario Williams. They are shopping John Abraham. That could cause GB to take Hawk.
The First 5 would then read:
Houston - Bush
NO- Leinart
Tennessee - Ferguson
Jets - Williams
GB - Hawk
I thought San Francisco won the coin toss and is picking at #6. In any case, Cutler going to da Raiders isn't out of the question. I haven't heard what they think of him. They could also go with Young. Then you probably have to flip a coin between Vernon Davis and Michael Huff for San Francisco
That leaves Buffalo with a choice of whomever San Francisco doesn't pick, Haloti Ngata, a reach (Brodrick Bunkley) or a trade down (Bunkley at 12 or so or Winston Justice). Ngata is still a good lineman. The question is at 340 lbs and 5.15 in the 40 is he quick enough and agile enough to be the kind of penetrating DT Buffalo needs to play the Chicago style Cover 2 defense we all assume Buffalo is going to try and use this year. I don't know, but Buffalo certainly did not show great interest in him at the combine from any reports I've seen.
With Milloy gone, Michael Huff certainly wouldn't be a terrible pick, nor would Vernon Davis given that Mark Campbell is gone, Everett is still something of an unknown quantity, and Euhus being just an average TE.

At the #8 pick Veron Davis is an athlete you don't pass on except if Williams or Ferguson are there.

the two things that jump out at me when you look at this thread and with the way most of us have been drooling over huff and davis, I was not and am not sold on huff, and he most certainly wouldn't replace milloy as a strong safety
The prevailing image of Huff for many scouts is one of him getting run over repeatedly by USC running back LenDale White in the Rose Bowl. Huff's Combine workout can't erase that tape and the impression it left on the scouts.
That being said, other scouts accept that Huff is not a strong tackler but still is a top-notch NFL safety prospect. He is smart and mature beyond his years, has excellent speed and athleticism, and has the range to cover plenty of ground in the deep middle. This becomes a big advantage for teams looking to field the new, prototypical strong safety in the vein of Roy Williams or Troy Polamalu.
With a free safety of Huff's caliber serving as the last line of defense, teams can bring the strong safety up into the box and give him freedom to make plays on the ball either in run support, in underneath coverage or as a pass rusher without worrying about giving up big plays.
In the Rose Bowl, Huff was assigned to Reggie Bush, man to man. If Bush left the backfield, Huff was on him. Huff matches up well with most backs in that role because he has great coverage skills and can play in man coverage.
That combination of skills will make him a special player in the NFL. One scout told us that Huff has the ability to line up immediately as a rookie and continue to start for 10 years.
Williams has been the leader of this pack to date, yet is not the leading topic of conversation because he elected not to work out at the Combine. That will not effect the scouts' evaluations, however, as long as he works out as well as expected at Virginia Tech's pro day later this month.
Williams has the size (6-2 1/4, 213), speed and confidence to be an elite NFL cornerback. He thinks like a corner, and has the physical tools and the coverage skills to be left one-on-one in coverage. Some teams might be tempted to look at him as a safety, but make no mistake: He can be a top corner.
Williams turned off some people in Indy with his cocky attitude, but there are coaches who will tell you that stylized arrogance is a necessary trait for a top corner. Though he isn't as smart as Huff, Williams is a very instinctive playmaker and remains the top DB on the board in 2006.
I took this from the warroom.com
and I think you are forgetting like the article says that jimmy williams to the niners is not out of the question when their only decent secondary guy got cut

I take Huff in a second. He is a leader, versatile and will start from day 1. Davis is special, but we have other needs.

Ngata will be the smartest pick if he is available. Big powerful is what we need on the line.

Trade down and pick up Hali or Mangold.

ok, now that the Saints signed Brees this might throw the draft all out of whack. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade down now. If they stay however, it would make sense to draft Ferguson. Anyone have any thoughts on who the Bills may draft? they might be close to signing Ryan Pickett so I'm thinking OT or perhaps Huff.

If the Bills sign Pickett they will do one of two things try to trade up for Williams or trade down and get Hali/Best OL - either move would be great for the team - although a trade down will allow us to build some additional depth

God, could you imagine how good the Bills d-line would be if they got Pickett and Williams? If you combine those 2 guys along with what they already have, their pass rush would be sick.

If Houston sticks with Bush, then it may look like this:
2. N.O.: Williams, DE
3. Tenn: Leinart, QB
4. Jets: Ferguson, OL
5. GB: Hawk, LB
Then it gets interesting...I agree, if we can get Picket, we'd be doing very well for our D-line, and will have gotten a lot younger.
The scuttlebutt on the TE we picked up from Washington (Royal) is that he is more of a blocking TE. So would we still consider V Davis at the 8th spot? I don't think we'd take Ngata if we got Picket to go with Triplett. I still think if there was any way we could trade up to get Mario Williams, we'd have a ridiculous D-line. But the O-line would remain a sieve.

There is still time to get OL in free agency. In the first round you need a guy that can come in and make an impact right away. Offensive Lineman and interior defensive lineman rarely do this.
If we get Pickett and Triplett we are in good shape at DT. We are looking at OL but outside of Fergusen there aren't any OL worth # 8. I think we still have time to get a quality OL in free agency, because there will be more cuts.
I think that Davis should be the pick, especially with Moulds impending departure and Losman being in need of weapons.
