Does one come with training wheels? That's the only way I'd be able to get one....

Had an XR growing up. Damn reliable bike requiring little maintenance. And this was 82-84 era.

Go w/ the Honda (XR)
I've owned a lot of dirt bikes, four wheelers, and motorcycles in my day and I think Honda is by far the best

Out of curiosity
What size and type of bike are you looking to get?
What type of riding are planning on doing?

The hell with moose, AnEin.
Canadians are a greater threat to Canadian bikers.

There's lots of back roads/logging roads to explore up here. Both of those are 650 cc dual-sport bikes that you can do 70mph no problem on the highway to get there and then take them down double-track trails.
They're too big and heavy for any heavy duty single-track...you would be best off using a 250 2-stroke or a 400-450 4-stroke that weighs about 100 lbs less for that.
Anyway, this will be my first bike. I just wrote the M1 licence test and will be taking the equivalent to the US MSR course in April and get my M2 in 60 days so I can ride at night, on 4-lane highways, etc. Right now, I'm shopping for a first bike...My limit is @ $4000 USD, so there's lots of 3-4 year old dual-sports out there in my budget.
Interesting Trivia - once I get my M2, I can't have any alcohol while riding until I pass my M test 20 months later.
.000 BAC is the legal limit when riding with either an M1 or M2 here in Ontario.

I really like riding a 4 wheeler up here, they're fun and don't require as much skill as a bike, which is important when you get to an advanced age.:D

I used to see so many bikes and their riders get torn to pieces by tree trunks on the trails behind my old back yard. Bikes give me shivers.
4-wheelers for the win!

You have to trailer a 4 wheeler to get to the trails. I want to be able to ride to the trails then ride home...
