Japan to offer US loan for troop exit
Sunday 19 February 2006, 9:41 Makka Time, 6:41 GMT
Japan will propose lending money to the United States to speed up the planned relocation of 7000 marines out of the country.
Japan is keen for the troops to leave Okinawa to reduce simmering tensions with local residents, but the United States has said a plan to move the troops to Guam will take decades unless Tokyo picks up much of the approximately $8 billion price tag.
Such spending will be unprecedented and requires parliamentary approval.
The move to Guam is part of the Pentagon's troop realignment plans in the region.
The United States wanted Japan to pay for a quick move outright, but the idea for a loan arrangement emerged in an attempt to gain public support, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported on Sunday, without citing sources.
Japanese officials are uncertain whether Washington would accept Japan's loan proposal, the Nihon Keizai said.
Defence officials were not available for comment on Sunday.

the US kept Okinawa alive for decades with its military presence.
Without the US, Okinawa would have been a haven for sea gulls.
It's about time the Japanese began to pay the US back for all its economic investment.

History of Okinawan Karate
It is said that the traditional Okinawan martial arts called Te and Chinese Kenpo were blended together and developed into karate. Karate later underwent significant developments in Okinawa based on several factors, including the policy of banning weapons following the political centralization of King Shoshin (1477-1526) and the Satsuma Clan's invasion of Ryukyu (1609).

$16 billion?? They STILL owe us for all the ammunition and ordnance that we used on them in 1945 to take that shitty island.
I'd say $25 billion (as adjusted to 2006 dollars).

Okinawans want the MARINES out. Not the US. Notice how Kadena Air Base is not mentioned, only the 7000 marines?
There have been some bad, bad things with Marines down there. Rapes of children, sexual assaults, robberies. Etc. A disgrace to the Corps, honestly.
I've BEEN to Okinawa. SPent two months there. Interacted directly with its wonderful people. They do NOT hate Americans. They are among the most polite, friendly people I have ever met. They want the Marines out because the Marines commit the majority of American-committed crimes there.
That they want to "loan" us the money to move them out is pathetic. They should be giving us a GRANT. After all, their economy exists because we built it for them.

If I stuck around with it long enough, maybe I could have been able to do this: http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/023/eng/009/002/b_015e.wvx
If I could ever find the time, (and a nearby facility that teaches Okinawan,) I'd definately do that stuff again!

Last I heard it as $420 an hour. There is a $400/hour surcharge for the ho's that is charged to pay for the bullets, shells, and bombs that we used to kill the bastards back in '45. Ohh the glory days when wasting the enemy made for good newsreel.
They are no longer inhuman bastards though. Today they are our friends. But still, they need to pay for the expense that we incurred for showing them the "American Way".

Seriously, my Sensei has met Pat Morita. Said he's kind of a jerk. Was, actually...since he's dead.
