Who get's your vote?

Obviously the 2 major candidates are Roy Williams and Bruce Pearl.

I'm saying Bruce Pearl of Tennessee should win it. He took a team that was unranked and not as talented as North Carolina and brought it to the top 15 in 1 season.

UNC also had a very talented recruiting class coming in and Tennessee was not highly thought of. Roy Williams has done an amazing job with the heels this season and obviously should get a ton of votes but the job Bruce Pearl has done to bring energy to that Tennessee program and to get those players to play hard and to get into the tournament this year cannot be overlooked.

I'll throw in Karl Hobbs from GW.

I don't care what their SOS is or what conference they play in. 26-1 is 26-1.

How bout Jay Wright? I know they were supposed to be good anyway, but after losing Curtis Sumpter and still being able to do what they did, in that conference, I have a lot of admiration for the job he's done this year.

But no doubt Pearl and Williams should both be near the top of the list.

Overall, I'd vote for Bruce Pearl.

Thad Matta at OSU

I'll second Matta, Ohio State wasn't ranked to begin the season nor were this year's freshmen highly thought of either. Despite that, the team won the #1 RPI rated conference. Pearl, Williams, and Hobbs all had fantastic seasons, but Thad has taken his team further in my opinion.

Karl Hobbs, GW.

Karl Hobbs, GW.

Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of Karl Hobbs. I like his energy and enthusiasm on the bench and he is a good X's and O's guy but IMO the coach of the year should make a lot out of just an average team and Hobbs doesn't fit that.

His G-Dub squad is very experienced and is stacked with straight-up athletes. Pinnock, Hall, Elliott, Williams, and Mensah-Bonsu could probably be close to where they are right now if one of us was coaching them.

Also, the same reason why GW won't be a 1 seed is another reason why Hobbs isn't the coach of the year...the SOS. 26-1 against Kennesaw State, Norfolk St, etc. is a lot different than 26-1 against teams from the Big East or ACC. Plus, the A10 has had a down year and will most likely only recieve 1 bid.

Give it to Matta. He was very successful at Xavier when West and Sato were there a few years ago and it's not surprising that he has been able to turn around OSU.

Matta has done a GREAT job but the #1 RPI for the Big 10 is a complete joke.

To me it's btw Roy and Pearl. Pearl did inherit talent but obviously coached them well to get them playing so well so quick and Roy lost his top 7 players and had what was regarded as a good NOT great recruting class and he finishes 2nd in the ACC and could get a 2 or a 3 seed. Amazing job by Roy as well as Pearl and a few others. It's a tough call this year.

How?....its a calculated formula...you just have to look at the numbers.

The conference has 3 ranked teams and I am not sure how Iowa is still ranked. 2 weeks ago they were #20 and lost 2 games(including 1 to Minny) yet they only dropepd 3 spots. Wisconsin lost to a div II team at home, Indiana and Mich State have been huge disappointments and Michigan is Michigan. It's an ok league but far from the top league.

Hey, i don't figure out the RPI.... but the ranking is the ranking...

and the Big 10 is at the top of the Ranking.

How about some love for John Thompson III? He may not be national coach of the year but he's done as much as some of the other guys mentioned. He could be Big East coach of the year.

I give him credit for building them back up but when I watch Georgetown I see an underachieving team. I think they have top 10 talent and are playing like a 20-25 team.

I'll give you the team might be underachieving a little. I see them more as a 15-20 team. I just don't see the top 10 talent. Hibbert, Cook, Green, Wallace, Owens and Bowman are nice players but none of them can take over a game and that's about as deep as they go. I would think you need to be more than six deep and have a "go to guy" to have top 10 talent.

Why did I know you'd say that? :D

He DID do a pretty good job this year. (and won Big 12 COTY) He took a bunch of freshman and sophs who didn't think D was important and turned them into a pretty good defensive team.

:erm: This is a no brainer!!!

Roy Williams, UNC. He lost his whole roster to the NBA, they weren't even supposed to make the tourney this year. The team is now a 3 seed. Tennessee could not even beat USC Gamecocks to move onto the semis of the SEC tourney, something they were expected to do. Ohio State underperformed in their conference tourney also, they should have won it. GW underperformed as well.

Hands down people, Roy Williams ... took a team who was supposed to do nothing, and had them playing excellent ball.
