Miami's Pro Day Highlights:
Devin Hester helped himself with a 4.32 40 time.
Orien Harris had mediocre workout - 40 time of 5.28, 4.51 short shuttle, didn't lift.

LSU:
Claude Wroten was unable to complete his 40. He pulled up short, I believe with a hamstring. He did manage to lift 24 reps of 225lbs.

That dude screwed the pooch. You just can't lame out of the Combine and then stink it up at your Pro-Day

This one hurt too. No Combine and an injury (not his fault) leaves scouts w/ little to go on. His ability to penetrate is good, but I think you need more than 24 reps at DT. Not good w/ his legal issues pending :gloomy:

Im going to make a prediction, Wroten wont be drafted on day 1. He is a 1st round talent but off the field problems and a bad showing or no showing in workouts.

I can just see scouts from all over the league flocking to Catawba's pro day.
I suspect Wroten might try to have a private workout to get bak into the first day draft picture. Maybe Orien Harris too. The last couple weeks would make me skittish about taking them though.

Not that it matters but Oklahoma State's is tomorrow. Since they're my University of choice I will tell you that there is a Fullback there that runs a 4.6 and benches 500 lbs +. Also one of the top return men in the big XII is there.

USC Pro Day Results (http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/9353513)
They ran outdoors on AstroTurf, which was a fast surface. All 40-yard dash times were clocked electronically, which historically adds about .08 of a second to the actual time. For instance, if someone ran the 40 in 4.50 seconds, it really means he ran it in about 4.42 seconds.
Player Position Gil's comments
Darnell Bing S Bing (6-1¾, 225) ran his 40s in 4.63 and 4.53. Had a 10-foot-5 long jump, 38-inch vertical jump, and 21 lifts.
William Buchanon WR Buchanon (6-3, 191) ran his 40s twice in 4.38 and had a 40-inch vertical jump. His father, Willie, was a former first-round draft pick as a defensive end from San Diego State.
Reggie Bush RB Bush (5-11, 202) ran his 40 in 4.33. Had a 10-foot-9 long jump, 40½-inch vertical jump.
Dominique Byrd TE Byrd (6-2 7/8, 258) ran his 40s in 4.81 and 4.79. Had a 36½-inch vertical jump and 16 lifts.
Winston Justice OT Justice (6-6¼, 320) had a 34½-inch arm length, 39-inch vertical jump, and 38 lifts
David Kirtman FB Kirtman (5-11½, 232) ran his 40 in 5.15, but that was the only time he ran it and it was slow due to the effects of a previously pulled calf. had a 34½-inch vertical jump and 26 lifts.
Matt Leinart QB Leinart (6-5 5/8, 224) had a 9-foot-6 long jump and a 37-inch vertical jump.
Taitusi Lutui OT Lutui (6-3½, 330) ran his 40s in 5.42 and 5.33. Had a 8-foot-6 long jump, 32-inch vertical jump, and 26 lifts.
Tom Malone P Malone (5-11 1/8, 204) only did the bench press because he wanted to be fresh for the punting drills. He had 14 lifts.
Fred Matua G Matua (6-2 3/8, 301) ran his 40s in 5.06 and 5.19. For a guy over 300 pounds to run a 40-yard dash in a theoretical time under fiv seconds, then he made a lot of money today and will shoot up draft boards. He also had a 30-inch vertical and 26 lifts.
Frostee Rucker DE Rucker (6-3¼, 261) ran his 40s in 4.80 and 4.81. Had a 9-foot-7 long jump and a 35-inch vertical jump.
Scott Ware S Ware (6-1¼, 213) had a 36½-inch vertical jump. He did not run.
LenDale White RB White (6-0¾, 244) had 15 lifts, but didn't do any vertical or long jumps. He did not run.
Justin Wyatt CB Wyatt (5-9 1/8, 189) ran his 40s in 4.74 with a bad start but managed a 4.63 with a good start. Had a 10-foot-1 long jump, 40-inch vertical jump, and 14 lifts

Matua may have passed Lutui on some draft boards after today's workouts. Would have liked to see Justice run, not sure if he did and it just wasn't reported. The 38 bench press reps is impressive for a guy with long arms like he has.
Bush pretty much locked up the #1 with his electronically timed 4.33, which translates to an unbelievable 4.25 !

The thing about Bush is he is quicker then he is fast, which makes him that much better.
The whole .08 thing, whos really cares. Bush ran a 4.33, which is fast. EVeryone at the combine ran electic also, so should we take off that time for them also?
Leinart showed some athletic ability with his vertical.
The one that shocked me was White not running. He must know he wouldnt run good, or he would have because 4.5 for him gets him into th etop half of the draft, now he might drop alot.

Here's another article on the USC pro day. Winston Justice reportedly impressed and improved his stock.
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9354063/2
Two potential first-round picks might be heading in opposite directions. Offensive tackle Winston Justice, who weighed in at 320 pounds, had a vertical jump of 39 inches and did 38 repetitions bench-pressing 225 pounds.
"It was like there was air in the bar, no iron," Fassel said, shaking his head.
Running back LenDale White didn't run the 40 because of a sore hamstring, and did 15 reps in the bench-press -- only one more than punter Tom Malone. Plus, he weighed in at 244 pounds, which is probably more than what NFL teams want.
"I was surprised," Bush said regarding the fact that White didn't run the 40. "He said he was hurt."

Here's some more from ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/news/story?id=2394532), with even more rave reviews about Justice.
Looking for winners? Well, try these two, for openers: The USC machine, already one of the premier football programs in the country, came out looking good. Coach Pete Carroll had 200 potential recruits on campus for the weekend, and the presence of so many NFL scouts certainly didn't hurt him when he delivered his sales pitch to possible future Trojans stars. And the Southern California offensive linemen who are draft eligible, in particular tackle Winston Justice, obviously enhanced their stock....
As for the on-field spectaculars, Justice, who still must resolve some old character issues for scouts before the draft, was the player who inarguably helped himself the most. He checked in at 6-foot-6¼ and 320 pounds, carried his weight well, and performed admirably in every drill.
In the vertical jump, Justice did 39 inches, an incredible mark for such a big man. He registered 38 "repetitions" in the bench press. Justice pulled up toward the end of the 40-yard drill, clutching his right hamstring, but one AFC scout still said he clocked him at 5.03 seconds.
In the pass-block drills, Justice, who has the kind of wing span scouts love (34½ inches) in pass protectors, looked very agile and naturally athletic, despite the sore hamstring.
"Happy with what I did and happy it's over," said Justice, who missed time during his career because of two off-field incidents, one of which included pulling a pellet gun on a USC student. "We'll just have to see where it goes from here."
Where the talented Justice could be going, according to coaches and scouts, is perhaps into the top 10 in the draft. Fox noted that there are teams that like Justice a little better than they do D'Brickashaw Ferguson of Virginia, the consensus No. 1 tackle in the draft pool.
"On tape, he's a player, a first-rounder," Fox said. "And that's ultimately what you're looking at when you make the final evaluation. But, yeah, Justice sure jumped out today. He could climb higher [in the first round] now, no doubt."
Two other offensive linemen, guards Taitusi Lutui and Fred Matua, were also impressive. Lutui looks like a prototype NFL guard, thick and girthy, at 330 pounds, and naturally powerful. Matua, the lesser-celebrated of the two, was 301 pounds Sunday but performed as many "reps" on the bench press as did Lutui (26) and ran considerably faster (5.06-5.33) in the 40.

Justice is sounding pretty good at this point. I really hope they can grab Lutui or Matua in the second (depending who is on the board). I wouldn't complain about that at all; finally get some talent on the lines, they could even play right next to each other (LT-LG).

I remember when Miami did that.
They drafted Richmond Webb in round one to play left tackle and then drafted Keith Sims to play guard.
That was a great draft for them.
The question is do we do something like that with a tandem of Winston Justice and Charles Spencer on the oline
or
a draft, if trading down, of Tamba and Jonathan Lewis on the dline?

What the hell is up with Lendale White?
"Not as tight as LenDale White, the other half of the USC tailback tandem, and the man who holds the school record for touchdowns. Still nursing a sore hamstring he said he sustained at the combine sessions in Indianapolis nearly six weeks ago, White looked soft and performed only in the bench press drill, where he eked out just 15 lifts. He rarely removed his track suit and, when he did, White looked soft. He weighed in at 244 pounds, six pounds heavier than he was at the combine.
White didn't seem concerned about not being able to work out. "I'm the only true big back in the first round, and people who want the physical runner are going to have to look at me," he said.
There's your guy with potential character issues.

Another good article on Justice:
USC's big winner
By Charles Robinson, Yahoo! Sports
LOS ANGELES – Winston Justice thrust his 320 pounds into the air, tapped a mechanism measuring his vertical leap and walked away with a twinge of disappointment. The delighted NFL onlookers be damned, 39 inches apparently wasn't enough.
"I thought I got 40, but they wouldn't give it to me," Justice said. "I thought I went higher."
If elevation was the goal, the University of Southern California tackle can rest assured that he pushed his draft stock to new heights Sunday. Justice was the big winner in the Trojans' annual pro day, entering as a top 15 through 20 pick, but looking more like top 10 material after putting on an impressive athletic display.
Not only did the USC right tackle register the best vertical jump and bench press performances (38 repetitions) of any of the premiere offensive linemen available, but he also put up a better pro day performance than Virginia offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who is widely considered the No. 1 tackle in the draft. While the display likely won't move Justice ahead of Ferguson on draft boards, it cements what few thought was possible in this draft.
Two elite tackles will be available on selection day.
"That 39-inch vertical jump is off the charts for a big man," Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said. "He's a really good football player on tape, and that's the No. 1 thing we look at. But he certainly didn't hurt himself today. … He's athletic enough to move to left tackle, that's for sure. It's just a matter of him getting comfortable. But Winston is a smart guy. He can handle that."
"It was more than what we expected," Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher said. "But you know, you could see flashes of that on the field. He's worked hard to get to this point."
Justice pulled his right hamstring and calf in the last few strides of his 40-yard dash, but still managed to clock a time of nearly five-flat seconds on stopwatches. His 10-yard split of 1.78 seconds suggests Justice could have run in the 4.9-range had he not pulled up at the very end. Despite the injury, he went though all of the drills, posting better numbers than Ferguson in the cone drills (7.37 seconds against Ferguson's 7.61) and shuttle (4.43 versus 4.85).
Justice weighed 15 pounds heavier than Ferguson at his pro day and still blew away the highly acclaimed Virginia product in the bench press (38-26 in reps) and vertical (39-30 in inches). And while Ferguson has spent the bulk of his career at left tackle and is known for being more technically sound, it wouldn't be surprising to hear some scouts suggest Justice is a better prospect.
