What are the exact regulations for NHL rosters? I can't seem to find the rules on this anywhere? If you have 2 vs 3 goalies does that clear up a spot for a forward or can you only have so many forwards anyways? I'm just trying to figure out if there is any way to keep up Poms and Roy w/o losing someone other then Peters and a goalie.

As of March 9th at midnight, you can have as many players on your roster that the cap will allow.

AFAIK, the rule is that you can have 23 "active" players on your roster...doesn't matter how many goalies or forwards or whatever. You can dress only 20 of them at game time. ...and, of course, your payroll cannot exceed the salary cap.

Players that are on Injured Reserve do not count against your active roster. So with Tim Connolly and Adam Mair currently on IR, their roster spots are taken up by players brought up from Rochester. When they come off IR, we have to send players back down to the AHL.

The rules for bringing players up and down from the AHL are weird. If a player's been a pro for at least 4 years, then they need to clear waivers each time they come up to the NHL or go back down to the AHL. Jason Pominville falls into this category, so if we tried to send him back to Rochester, another team would DEFINITELY claim him off waivers. However, we could send Miller, Vanek, Gaustad, or Roy back down to Rochester without needing them to clear waivers.

Tough choices.

Really? Wow, that's awesome! So if Connolly and Mair stay on IR for at least another week, then we can keep all the guys up from Rochester and not have to worry about sending anyone down or clearing waivers or anything.

NICE!
