Here are some pretty big IFs. If or when Moulds leaves and IF Buffalo can snag some top quality D and O Line talent via FA, then why not take the best player available regardless of position at the #8 spot? I know it's been beat up already here, but maybe a V. Davis would be just what we need. The guys a freak and will definetly be an impact player for some team. Believe me i'm big on defense and being able to stop the run. To me it's our #1 concern. That being said, I say IF these other need areas are addressed before the draft and a guy like that is available. Snatch that dude up! It would be a mistake if we didn't, especially with the depth in this years draft.

I agree. You have to get a stud, no reaching for linemen that aren't worthy.

Worthy of the 8th pick? If Ngata is the best available and we do nothing in FA then we almost have to take an interior D stud. It's hard to say, there are alot of variables.

Ngata doesn't fit our scheme any more than Sam.

Ngata doesn't fit our scheme any more than Sam. So who do you think they will take at #8?

If we can’t address the o-line and d-line in FA’cy then we trade down to get another 2nd (preferably) or 3rd round draft pick, and snag the best O or D lineman available in the 1st (Bunkly/Justice) or who ever is there. Then keep stacking on the lineman the rest of the first day. Next years draft would be the time for the “best player available / skill positions” in the 1st round.

Our best chance for immediate success, which is what the front office keeps preaching, is to pick up a couple O and D lineman in FA’cy in 06’ and snag a guy like Davis at pick 8.

Then a couple of good lineman on the first day of the draft this year (06), and again next year in (07') as well. So by the start of 07’ our two front lines are fixed, young, and we have a few new stars on our team as well, like Davis. I prefer this solution as opposed to drafting all linemen on the first day this year. Not only that but it would probably keep the team more competitive, and sell more tickets. Which is good for everyone.

I agree except that I don't know if Evertt may be a good enough speedy pass catching TE. There may be more gain or upgrading by going another route. The competition between the two options might be stated as:
{1} Evertt is a 75/100 and Davis is a 98/100 = + 23 "points". OR
{2} D-line upgrade (lower 1st round pick) goes 80/100 to 93/100 AND the O-line upgrade (new 2nd round) 75/100 to 88/100= upgrade of +26 "points". Who the lower point options might be in case {2} is unknown and how good Evertt might be may be the undisclosed-to-me best guess by the coaches. .....But it is fun to speculate. (However, for me, its not speculation but stating irrefutable, gospel truth!)

Sam Adams didn't fit our system because of his character issues coupled with the fact he rarely had to be double-teamed. Ngata will be better than Adams ever dreamed of being, IMO.

We need a stud interior linemen more than we need a skill player who "isn't worthy"...

Last year, WITH Moulds, we stunk. Getting Davis to "replace Moulds" isn't going to greatly improve the team. Getting an improved DT that should demand more double-teams WILL improve the team. That 31st ranking agains the run is P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C. We can never even DREAM of making the playoffs with a ranking like that.

I agree, again it depends on what we can get out of FA. We are far enough under the cap this year to be able to upgrade both sides of the ball. If we can bolster the D- Line then maybe it won't be such a need to spend our #8 on a DT. The fact is we probably won't make a SuperBowl push until at least next year(2007). Too many questions. I keep hearing SANFRAN might take Davis at #6, but if he falls to us, we should take him. A player like this guy doesn't come around that often.
