Several things are leading me to believe that D'Brickashaw Ferguson will fall at least to 5 in the upcoming draft. Say the top 3 goes:
1. Houston: Bush
2. N.O.: Leinart
3. Tennessee: Young
The Jets are looking at D'Brick, and a lot of mock drafts have him going there. It is starting to look like they won't take him, either.
1. Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports a source said the New York Jets are interested in Atlanta Falcons OT Kevin Shaffer, when he becomes and unrestricted free agent. "That strongly leads me to believe that the Jets are going to go after a quarterback with their first-round draft pick," the source said. "If they want (Shaffer) that badly, then why would they draft (Virginia) OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who's the best tackle in the draft?"
2. Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports a source said the New York Jets have elevated Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler above Texas QB Vince Young in draft order because of Young's poor score on the Wonderlic test. "A lot of people are scared of Vince Young right now," one NFL agent said. "Are you going to draft Vince Young with a Wonderlic score of 6 who's three years away (from playing)?"
So if D'Brick falls to GB at 5, would they still take AJ Hawk or Mario Williams, or Ferguson? Would SF pick Ferguson at 6? The Raiders at 7?
I think he's the real deal, and hope Ferguson falls to the Bills at 8. If it doesn't look like he will fall, why not jump up to 6, just 2 spots, and take him? Not sure what the price would be, but it seems like it would be worth it. Further, if we are going back to pre-1994 NFL management, we wouldn't be burned developing him and then having him leave after 4 years, when he was just getting good.
