View Full Version : So how does the Adams cut affect the Bills draft?

It had been speculated for a about a week now that the Bills were going to cut Adams b/c Marv didnt believe he fit the system. This may be the very reason he got cut. Though I'm leaning more towards the fact that the Bills saved 3.5 million in cap space as the main reason.

But non the less I think its fair to say Sam not fitting the system played a fairly big role.

On that premise I believe that the Bills came away w/ a long list of DT's that they liked at the Combine. This doesnt mean that the Bills will use there first pick on a DT. In fact they may think the class is deep enough that they dont have to pick one in the 1st round and can wait till the second or early third to grab one. Which is why they may have felt the need of Adams was no longer a need and that there are plenty of DT's via the draft that would fit there system better

W/ the system in mind I believe that after his showing at the combine, the Senior Bowl, and standout college career that B.Bunkley has caught the eye of the Bills brass. With good reason too, he would be a perfect fit in a cover 2scheme. Ngata may have also caught the eye of the Bills scouts w/ his showing also but given the choice between the two w/ the cover 2 in mind I think Bunkley would be the better fit.

I dont expect the Bills to fill both the DT holes through the draft. So look for them to make a run at a FA that has been in the scheme or would fit the scheme better w/ there new found cap room

With the Adams cut, I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that Levy et al are going to take Ngata.

I'm still holding out hope that Ferguson falls to us (doing numerous mock drafts to figure out ways he might), or that we trade up to get him. He's a class act (read Levy kind of guy), and has played LT the whole time (unlike Williams).

Extremely interesting moves going on. Like you, I think Bunkley will be our man in the 2nd.

But I've heard/read Bunkley is the 2nd DT in the entire draft...I'm not sure he'll be there in the 2nd.

I think Bannan and Anderson stepping in and playing better than Sam in that game last year did it.

Those two did not close out the year with a poor showing.

They actually held up pretty well.

That being said, the Bills are in sore need of 2 starting DT's.

I dont think Bunkley will be there in the 2nd

I think hes a def 1st rounder

A guy like Wroten will be there in the 2nd and possible early third if the Bills are willing to take a chance. Or a guy like Jesse Mahelona can be had in the 2nd or third

No way Bunkley lasts until the second after his combine showing . . .maybe a Watson, or Wright though?? Even though I'm not high on either . . . I'd like to see us jump all over Vernon . . .dude's an animal, he's a Reggie Bush type talent at the TE position. I think taking a DT or OL in the top 10 of the draft is a mistake . . and we've already made it once this decade . . let's not do it again.

Ngata and Wroten? Ngata and McCargo? Eureka Ngata and Dvoracek.

I think we sit at 8 and take the best player available.

If we don't like who is there trade down if possible and get Bunkley or someone else.

If we get the guy we want at 8 (other than a lineman: Hawk, Davis, etc.) take the best lineman in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Bunkley will go mid first round. Buffalo might pursue a trade down. I've heard a couple possible trade partners mentioned. They could also go with Vernon Davis or Sam Huff with Milloy and Campbell being cut. Everett is still an unknown and the Bills don't have a solid strong safety on the roster, especially one who can cover.

How does Ron Edwards fit in all of this?I think he is quick enough to play in
the Tampa defense, but he is often hurt.Anderson,Bannan, and Sape are nothing but tier 2 big bodies.I would aggresively look to trade down and stock extra picks.Bunkley would be my target after trading down.He should be
around till the mid-20's in the 1st.

Nah, he's gone before 15. We should get him, but if we drop lower than 15 we miss out.

I think a veteran FA and a lower round 1st round draft pick will be our starting defensive tackles. We should root for quarterbacks, linebackers, running backs and tight ends to have good combine workouts so people will draft heavily at positions where we don't have an immediate screaming need.

I agree. I think Davis and Huff just got a lot more atractive with the cuts of Cambell and Milloy.

Ron Edwards, if Healthy would be great in a Tamp 2. The guy ran in the 4.7's at 300+ lbs.

He is a free agent though and his injuries are a problem.
