with all the free agent QB's that will be floating around, does anyone think there is chance Marv and DJ bring in a 3rd guy to compete?
The big names that could possibly move are Brees, Culpepper, Pennington and Mcnair.....but there are some lesser names that will be available like Aaron Brooks and Patrick Ramsey also....I'd be interested in looking at Ramsey
thoughts?
sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum - just thought I'd ask

We are not going after a "name" QB.
All we can hope for is JP developes in to the guy we all want him to be, if not, we move on.

I am not in favor of one of the big names, unless Mcnair was to get cut because he couldn't work his salary out - but a hungry young guy like Ramsey wouldn't be bad.....I dont really think hes made much of a name for himself
On the other hand, I read and ESPN article a while back that said he and JP dont get along from their time at Tulane so that is probably not going to happen

Jamie Martin...I expect our new OC to push for him and he should be cheap

Culpepper or Brees would be instant starters, but I think the mgmt will concentrate on other areas.

is there anyone who does get along with JPL?
and it would make things very interesting if they brought in Ramsey...
what a wild QB competition...
Holcomb, the guy JPL couldnt beat out in college and JPL...
that would put JPL 3rd on the depth chart, no?

Yeah, it'd definitely make things interesting. But I'd rather win. The guy was given more than enough chances in Washington.

I think the likely targets are guys like McCown and JT O'Sulliven
Maybe Volek if he gets released

Marv has said before that there might be another option competing for the job, so I would definately say that we will be exploring all options. I think eventually, unless a big name QB is brought in, that JP will win the competition in TC.

very true...
I dont think I was advocating Ramsey in my post, merely noting the drama that would ensue if Ramsey became a Bill...
both the former Tulane QBs have been given tons of opportunity and done almost nothing with them...

I think McCown could be a find. He's played well when he's had a chance. For the right price, I'd bring in anyone.

I dont think we are bringing in anyone but for conversation's sake I'd say Volek or McCown would be good choices

Unless the CBA gets done there will be a ton of free agents and players cut that will flood the market. Moulds picked a bad time to want more money. Ramsey will be on the market along with about ten others from the redskins. No CBA will change all the rules. NO CBA will put washinton for example over the the cap about twenty million , and thats just one team.

Someone has to be brought in either by FA'cy or via the draft b/c there is no reason to have Matthews on the roster when we already have a solid vet over 30

I like McCown but I also like Chris Weinke! You can call me crazy but I think in the right system he can be an effective QB!

If Volek was so great he would be starting over an aging Mcnair.

I disagree Merk. We dont need to brig someone from FA to be 3rd stringer unless JP or KH get hurt. Thats exactly how we got Mathews in the first place.

No need for another QB

So do you want to carry just 2 QB's?
If so I can see the theory behind that and its not a bad one
I personally think the we should carry a young 3rd QB as development project for later use. Such as in a trade, become the starter, or at worse make him into a solid back up that knows the system if our Starting QB goes down.
This is why I want to draft E.Meyer in the 5th or 6th if hes there

The only way youll see anything significant is if Marv trades up for Young or Leinhart. That said, very unlikely.

JP Losman, I still have hope in him. However if we want a good QB then we should look into John Kitna. Yes Kitna is average but with the right motivation he will do well. Remember he was already QB when Cincinatti turned the corner. Kitna would be a positive step. If we can't get Kitna then we must stick with Losman.

No no !! no 2 qb experiments. Holcomb is very fragile. We def need a 3rd qb I just dont think that FA is the way unless a very cheap one comes around. A 6th rounder is fine.

LOL@couldn't beat out.
You're herophobia knows no bounds.
The Holcombites are really dragging this board down lately.
We need to cut Holcomb, acquire Volek to start, and hope like hell JP develops.

He already sign back with the bengals if I am not mistaken! I'm telling you a good veteran FREE AGENT would be Chris Weinke from the Carolina Panters! He has experience, and I think in the right system he could be effective.

Weinke? Are you freaking kidding me? He was almost cut last year! He probably will be cut in training camp! He's just another slinky-armed QB like Holcomb, just without the experience or the accuracy.

thats how Marv likes to roll. Give the guy plenty of time to grow into a gamer, but that was pre FA.
