Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush might not land with the Houston Texans after all.

Texans general manager Charley Casserly said that the Texans have been talking to teams about possibly trading the first pick in the 2006 draft.

It has been widely speculated that the Heisman Trophy winning running back out of Southern California would end up with the Texans because they recently gave quarterback David Carr a three-year contract extension.

The Texans, who finished 2-14 last season, have multiple needs that might be filled with one major move.

"There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players," Casserly said. "Players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick. We've already had discussions with teams. I think there's value in our pick.

"Whether it's Reggie Bush, Vince Young or Matt Leinart, those three players are going to produce trade offers. We are definitely going to have some choices when it comes to draft day."

On the Sunday version of the combine show, Casserly said he has talked to 2 teams, Butch Davis says that he is just posturing, there is no way you pass on a guy that Davis says, "can get you 20-25 touchdowns per year.

I'm telling ya watch out for a trade by Tenn. to go grab Leinart

Another thing to watch for is the V.Young fall. He is by no means a lock to go #3

I think the Texans at least have to keep the door open to a trade. No pick is a sure thing. If David Carr is ever to have a shot of becoming a quality NFL QB, he needs an O-Line to keep him from getting killed. Now, sure you can rebuild the line with later picks, but if you can address your #1 need and get extra picks to address other needs, plus probably save a few bucks in the process, it is all worth considering. Of course if they really believe Bush is the next Gayle Sayers, everything else should be thrown out the window and they should just take the guy.

The more important thing is our mock draft just gained an ounce more credibility because we started off with a Jets - Texans trade. ;)

That is TRUE!! I just could not see Bush going #1 overall when the Texans had Davis/Wells, and their offensive line was so... offensive. :)

The trade may not be with the Jests, but somehow I had a hard time believing the Texans would pass up an opportunity to get a stud like D-Brick when they need him so very badly...

Young dropping scares me a bit. If he free falls to the Bills, the Bills essentially drop down a position because I don't see them drafting him. Of course at that point, perhaps someone will want to trade up, so it might not be too bad. I really want either Mario, D'Brick or Ngata. For that to happen we need the 3 big QBs and Bush to go. I assume Hawk is going to the Packers.

I think the Jets have decided to take Cutler no matter what, so I agree.

I figure it like this

Every year 1 player who everyone considers a top 5 pick drops out of it and does some sort of free fall into the later first round

A good example of this would Rodgers dropping to the Pack in the 20's last year and T.Suggs dropping to #10 in 2003 I believe

I have 6 people who I would consider top 5 talents

Leinart
Bush
D'Brick
Hawk
Mario
Young

Of the 6 Young has the most Questions about him and is the most raw skill wise. This is why I dont think he is going in the top 5 anymore and I believe there is a good shot he lands down at #10 to Arizona

Any chance that the Saints take Cutler, if he keeps impressing he very well be the first QB picked. Personally i think Young may fall, but just a hunch.

Here's the Great Blue North Draft's take:

Trade talk starts to heat up in Indy… Houston G.M. Charlie Casserly, who’s Texans hold the #1 pick at the 2006 draft, let it be known in no uncertain terms that the top pick this year is very much up for sale when he made the media rounds at the Combine in Indianapolis on Sunday. In fact, Casserly admitted that the Texans have already talked with at least a couple of other teams about a possible deal involving the #1 pick. According to Casserly, the possibility of a trade is out there because unlike last year “there is something to go get” with this year’s pick. What he means of course is that there are talented football players this year worth the top pick, including Southern Cal RB Reggie Bush, whom the Texans are expected to take if they keep the top pick, as well as QBs Matt Leinart of Southern Cal, Vince Young of Texas and Jay Cutler of Vanderbilt. Casserly, though, also indicated that even if the Texans traded out of the #1 slot they still wanted to come out of the 2006 draft with an impact player meaning they likely won’t want to move down all that far. And we are just speculating here, but the only teams with top picks likely to be willing to move up to the #1 slot would be the New York Jets sitting at #4 and Oakland with the 7th pick. Both the Jets and Raiders desperately need an upgrade at QB and might be very tempted to move up if they felt that the player or players they wanted weren’t going to be available at their respective positions. Meanwhile, Houston may be tempted to move down because while USC’s Bush is a terrific prospect he doesn’t really fit a need; indeed, the Texans for example have much bigger problems along an offensive line which has allowed QB David Carr to get hammered year in and year out since he arrived in Houston and might be tempted to drop down 3-4 spots and still grab Virginia OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson. There is also a scenario in which the Texans could still select Bush if they somehow ended up with the 4th pick overall and the three QBs went 1-2-3. The wild card in all of this may be Oakland which has been very interested in Texas’ Young at the Combine and could be tempted to get into the bidding for the #1 pick. Houston may not want to drop down all the way to the #7 slot, but just having the Raiders in the mix could force another team – say the Jets – to figure they’d better get into the top 3 if they want one of the young QBs. This is just starting to get interesting so stay tuned.

I still think the Jets stay put and take Cutler.

I do not see the Texans staying with the #1, they have to many holes to fill and I think they will move down. I could also see them as they move down, taking Ferguson if they trade to someone like the Titans or Jets. I think the only hope for the Bills to get Williams or Ferguson would be for Cutler to be taken ahead of us.

From reports I've heard, they are enamored with the D'Brick.

Save this post for when I am proven wrong, but I think there is zero chance of us getting a shot at this guy.

I have said it before but we will need help if we are to get Ferguson or Williams. I think there is a possibility at getting one of them but a lot of stuff needs to go our way. Like Cutler being drafted in the top 7 and the Packers taking White. But I feel the only real way that we get either one of them is by trading up which I would not be against because we have a couple 3rd rounders and we might be able to package one of them with your first.
