Getting Mathis in Free Agency would be an instant upgrade!

I am not sold on Mathis. I believe he is quite undersized and he played on a fairly decent DL (Freeney on the other side). More importantly, due to their great Offense, Indy's D was often playing with a commanding lead and knew the opponents had to pass. That is a HUGE advantage to a D when the opponent's O is forced to be one-dimensional.

I think Mathis will be a high-priced FA washout in another situation. He'll be a liability against the run and won't be as effective as a pass rusher when the opposition can run or pass.

Just my $.02 worth...

Mario Williams has the similar play to Julius Peppers.

I'd also go with Kiwanuka, Hali will probably be a OLB, and theres no way Williams will fall to 8!

Moron, Hali is about as far from a OLB as you can get. Anyone who suggests that does not know or watch football.

I very much agree. Stay away from Mathis.

lololol Oh man!

Sco dont take this the wrong way or be offended but you need to do a little more research before posting. There is no way Hali is going to be an OLB in the NFL

You are right on Williams though he wont be there at 8

There have been many reports of him being the next Demarcus Ware, dont get me wrong he can and probably be a great DE, but they say his ability's will allow him to move to OLB if he's drafted by a team with a 3-4 scheme.

But just b/c he's capable of the switch, doesn't mean it plays to his strengths. Hali will be a beast and I pray he's doing it in Buffalo.

No, im not, there have been many people sutch as Clayton and Mayock who say that if he DOES go to a 3-4 team he will be a OLB, im not saying he should be a OLB, they were just making the comparison between him and Spears, that Hali can and would be a great OLB.

Clayton is a nerd. If you honestly believe that, you don't watch football.

Sorry.

Remember, in the scheme the Bills say they want to run, we will have undersized defensive lineman, but they will be very quick.

Schobel fits.

I like Tamba Hali and Im looking forward to seeing him workout at the combine.

Mathis would be the perfect fit but would cost a crap load to get him. Restricted guys will cost us draft picks and a huge contract.

Raheem Brock also would be a good fit and is worth looking at. I think Brock is a better every down player then Mathis is.

If I draft ANY DE, I'm going after Wimbley. SuperSleeperCell.

I'm telling you guys, Darren Howard has the size and strength to play LE. And Start.

-- Colts Re-Sign Brock --

AP reports DL Raheem Brock signed a five-year contract Friday that makes sure one of the Indianapolis Colts' most versatile defenders stays off the free agent market. Brock, who tied a career-high with 6 1/2 sacks last season, was set to become an unrestricted free agent March 3. "He's extremely happy that coach (Tony) Dungy and Bill Polian expressed that they wanted to have him back and we wanted to get it done," said Kevin Pompey, Brock's agent. Pompey would not release financial details of the contract but called it a fair deal for both sides.

I don't get it. You think Mathis would fit perfectly because he's an undersized DE like Schobel. The Bills finished next to last in the entire NFL in rush defense with 137.8 yards per game average. Wouldn't you like at least one player who can hold his position when the play comes his way?

Its not the size thing that made us last in run-d it was everyone out of thier gaps witch led to all the long runs.

You would have us believe that the problem was that every single defensive linemen was playing in the wrong position for the entire game all through the season? Okaaaaaay...

We stopped the run when we played disciplined and did not overpersue. Benching Adams helped too. We need to upgrade the position, but they weren't 31st in the league talentwise.... maybe 32nd mentally but not physically :D

As Belichick likes to say, "The situation is what it is." Giving up 137 a game average is not stopping the run.

Upgrades are necessary because the entire defense's success is predicated on stopping the run and you can't help the line by improving other areas. Stop the run and you can blitz to your heart's content and life gets easier in the secondary. Can't stop the run? The linebackers have to help out too much and can't blitz, the strong safety has to come up too close to the line which makes pass coverages more difficult and the entire defense suffers.
