It's about time. Let's hope what they said about Esche is correct.

The other thing i heard is that Esche may pull out because Philly's backup goalie may end up starting for Finland, and Clarke might want Esche to drop out so that both of his goalie's don't end up burnt out from the olympics.

I'd much rather Miller sit at home in Buffalo and not play, than go sit in Italy and not play.

Esche pulling out would be a nightmare for Waddell. The whole point of not picking Miller was to avoid a controversy with DiPietro, their annointed golden boy.
Of course, if it comes down to Miller, DiPietro, and Grahame I don't see how there is any controversy. Miller is the starter.

I am way more concerned about the Sabres than I am of the USA hockey team. I would rather Ryan sit out for two weeks and be ready for March.

According to WGR this morning, and reports i heard, Miller will be on the Taxi squad but not go to Italy unless needed, so he will be a part of the team, kinda, but stay here.

Right. But if he's part of the taxi squad and Eshe pulls out, Miller gets to go to Turin and watch DiPietro whiff on beachballs.

Yeah thats right, but if Esche pulls out, does Laviolette turn to Miller a guy that was not on the team to begin with and make him the starter???? Why not??

He should turn to Miller if Eche pulls out. But I sure would hate for Miller to get hurt in any way.

I don't see anything about Esche in that link?!?

This works out great for the Sabres, because Miller gets the cred he deserves so much, and he really doesn't have to play as a reserve unless the sky falls. :)

As long as he doesn't get hurt, I'm ok with it.

I hope Esche doesn't pull out, cause the last thing we need is for Miller to go out there and risk getting hurt for a USA team that won't medal no matter whos in net.

I am for that also... he got his due as a named player, so now he can rest for the drive to the postseason :)

If Esche pulls out, that doesn't automatically make Miller the starter.
He's got 3 goalies in front of him right now. If Esche can't go, Miller still has 2 goaltenders in front of him. Miller will be on the taxi squad. Not the starting roster. They've already named the starting roster.
If Miller plays - then good. LET'S GO USA!! But I don't want him sitting on the bench or sitting up in some Italian press box for 2 weeks when he could be sitting comfortably at home in downtown Buffalo - in the Eastern Conference Time Zone.

Just because he's in Italy for a couple weeks doesn't mean the jet lag will affect him THAT much! I've flown that route a few times, and the lag is merely temporary... not enough to turn him into mishmash!
This isn't as bad as some make it out to be. :)

I just got back from Palermo, Sicily 3 weeks ago. I was there for 16 days. They're 6 hours ahead of us over there, as I'm sure you know. The jet lag affected me enough to be feeling it at work for a good 4 days after I got back.
I just heard Miller today say pretty much the exact thing I said in my previous post.
If he's not playing, he wants to be in Buffalo. The reasons are obvious :)

If I am Laviolette and Esche pulls out Dipietro has a VERY short leash and I would not even give Grahame a whiff of Italian ice. Dipi ha a bad fist game... period, whatever, he gets yanked and Miller is my horse. Laviolette does not want to lead the US to an early exit. He will go with the best guy for the job.

If I am Laviolette and see highlights of John Grahame against the Devils tonight, I buy Miller a cab ride and tell Grahame the team bus is leaving for the airport an hour later than it actually is.
