Tells ya what all those writers know. They know jack sh*t ! Next year when they're predicting the season, don't believe a word you read.

When the predictions came out at start of season I was like...how can anyone predict anything for this season as they have been off for like a year and no one really had a true handle on how the rule changes would affect the game....

The best part is most of these so called experts predicted Pittsburg to make the playoffs. Last time I checked you can't win too many games when your stud D-man is Gonchar.... I like the surprise of a great season better anyways, it just feels better.

A lot of Sabres "fans" on this board were predicting the season to turn out exactly like all of those hockey writers predicted.

Because Regier didn't go apeshit and sign any "big name" free agents.

Don't get me wrong, I'm suprised that this team is this good as well. But I knew they would be strong enough to make the playoffs. Illis and I had more than a few discussions and disagreements about that :-)

I'll be the first to admit that I did not expect much out of this team this year. It wasn't that I thought they didn't have the talent (save on defense, which I still feel could be improved). I thought experience would be more of the issue. I love being wrong (sometimes).

They said we would be the next to worst team in the league, the Washington Capitals being the worst.

I fully expected the Sabres to do as if they did before, be in the hunt for the final playoff spot. Nobody in their right mind could have ever believed that guys like Lydman, Numminen and Kotalik would perform like they have!!!!

This is a magical regular season!!! I can only hope the playoffs end in the Ultimate Cup for the Goatheads!

Kotalik is a huge suprise. All that icetime that was freed up when Satan was let go might prove to be the best move offensively since the lockout.

Lydman and Numminen however, I feel like I was the only one sticking up for these guys when they were brought here. Expecially Numminen. So many people were bashing this guy because of his age and his heart problem which isn't a problem anymore, it was ridiculous. I knew they would both solidify our top 2 pairings but they are performing even better than my expectations. The entire team is.

I had them pegged finishing about 10th. Didn't see this coming for sure.

I do remember John Bucigross over at espn.com relunctantly putting the Sabres 14th. He said something about really liking this team, that they had an upswing, but they were too young and inexperienced. Anyone remember reading that?

I remember him saying he so wanted to pick the Sabres to make the playoffs but just couldn't for the reasons you mentioned. I thought he put the team at 9 or 10 in the conference....

i want to find some of the old articles and just laugh at them.

i had no idea what to expect about this team before hand, especially before this season i was football first, hockey second. but damn if they didnt change my mind, and in a hurry, go sabs!

given all the surprise generated by the Sabres, will Lindy Ruff get at least some consideration for Coach of the Year?

I would say he'll get some consideration but Laviolette has to be the front runner right now.

Everybody who saw the Sabres run roughshod over the opposition during the last three weeks needs to relax and remember one thing: It's the preseason. "Pre" as in "pre-tend", "pre-dictable", "pre-mature" and "pre-posterous." Now, we're not implying the team's plethora of inexperienced youngsters won't lead them anywhere close to a playoff spot, let alone a Stanley Cup. Actually, scratch that. That's exactly what we're implying.

I picked this to happen. I picked Connolly to become the player he is. Get on the Pyatt bandwagon now, and let your other broken ankles heal.
