I'd bet my life or any amount of money the Sabres do not win the Stanley Cup this year..any takers since everyone is so confident??

Next year is a diffrent story though. I just dont think the Sabres have the experience yet. Nor do I think they can beat teams like Ottawa and Carolina in a 7 games series. Their only 1-4 against those two teams so far, and the only win was after a shootout, nothing too dominating. Call me negative or whatever, I really hope I'm wrong, but I dont think so.

Quite a bit,actually:

1999: Canes win the SE Division, but are eliminated by Boston.

2001: Canes make the playoffs.

2002: Canes make the playoffs, and make their run to the Finals.

Regardless, Carolina is a better team than Buffalo. You can't argue that. They beat them in their only matchup so far, and have the best record in the NHL.

Its hard to gauge if they are a better team than Buffalo right now. Sure, they have a better record than the Sabres. But look at their division opponents. There are 3 teams in the Southeast Division that are under .500 - Atlanta, Florida, and Washington.

NO TEAM in the Northeast Division is under .500

Carolina is in the weakest division in the Eastern Conference. That doesn't mean anything?

I wouldn't be talking about Canada's education system...

Canadians place a premium on education and demand first-rate schools. Canada spends more per capita on its education system than any other country in the G-7 and is among the top three countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). A degree from a Canadian university is recognized world-wide and as a result, international students who graduate from Canadian universities enjoy successful and prosperous careers.

Have fun paying $20,000 USD per year for university in the States, while I enjoy paying $6,000 CAN per year for university here in Canada, which is just as good, if not better.

Ok. Sure. The Sabres are the best team in the East. Hell lets make it the NHL because other teams play in easier divisons. So now we know there is nobody else better than the Buffalo Sabres everyone should be willing to lay down some cash bets on them winning the cup, or atleast getting there right? You're the guy that's spewing this "the Carolina Hurricanes are a better team than Buffalo" talk. I'm the guy making a legitimate argument as to why they may not be. It's not my problem that I'm pointing out obvious facts to make a case for my argument. Its your's.

Its all a matter of opinion, Islander fan. I'm not saying the Sabres are the best team in the east...I'm just saying there are plenty of reasons to believe that the Hurricanes aren't. Deal with it and have a discussion about it. Try backing up your opinion rather than shelling up and over exaggerating the arguments that I'm making.

Want another reason why I believe the Sabres are better than the Hurricanes? Actually, I don't care if you do or not...You're reading this anyways.

The Sabres have less goals against, as well as a better power play and penalty killing percentage.

Come on, give me another snappy comeback. It'll be easier for me to respond because there's plenty of positives about Carolina that you could be throwing at me here...But I guess you'd just rather be arrogant about it.

ALL that matters is wins and Points. Basically just points. And Carolina has more, and more wins and less losses so, bottom line. Cry all you want about who they play and whatever, they play the teams on their schedule, theres nothing they can do but that.

About goals agaisnt Carolina has way more goals scored. So I guess that evens out.

I'm completely relaxed. And I like a little decent conversation. I don't mind that you think the 'Canes are the best team in the league....Its not like you're going out on a limb saything that. But ff I disagree, I'll point out the reasons why and hope for a reply. That's what made you all huffy puffy. Then, in turn, you got me going...

You say you like the Sabres. But all I remember about you during the offseason was how the Sabres lost their two best players (Satan and Zhitnik), how they signed no one so they sucked, so that in turn prompted you to post over and over again a gigantic picture of the Islanders holding up the Cup where you then said "The fans of Buffalo will never see this. Go Islanders! I might as well root for the team where our two best players are." Something along the lines of that....So forgive me if I seem a bit chaffed when you talk about the Sabres. Especially when you say you like them.

You're right. Carolina can't help the fact that they are in the weakest division in the East, and therefore play the bulk of their games against some of the conferences weaker teams. But you can't admit that that has a direct effect on their win column?

You're right. I thought the Sabres were going to be bad. I was wrong, I didnt take into account the new rules would actually help them that much. Even some of the biggest Sabres fans I know predicted them to bad last in the division and all that.

I was just teasing and getting everyone fired up with the Islanders. I do really like Satan and Zhitnik, and was upset they didnt come back. I think we we kept them, or atleast one, the Sabres would be even more outstanding, which seems even more insane. I root for those two players still, even being on the Isles, but hey, I dont think theres anything wrong with liking players on other teams.

But hey, I'll be the first to admit I was totally wrong about the Sabres, if they keep winning, more power too them, it'd be nice to have all wining teams here if we can get the Bills going, because we all know the Bandits are good every season too :D

A few of us mentioned the new rules as a serious reason for why the Sabres would be better than predicted by some of those very intelligent sports writers...............

That's all fine and dandy, but I looked at that as much more than teasing. Its hard enough dealing with fans of cities that have Championships let alone dealing with what I thought at the time was a local bandwagoner who actually attends Sabres games.

That is a hell of a point, which I haven't given enough credit to us for.

Winning in the playoffs is about overcoming adversity, and this team's done that, not just this year, but in the past 4.

We need a solid defensive presence and we must get rid of Campbell. He's been directly responsible for 3 out of our last 4 goals.

Campbell, Biron and a RW gets us a hell of a good RD.

Sorry. No. As much as I'd like it, not gonna happen.Hey, I'm really glad you said that! Recent history has shown your judgment on anything relative being far from exemplary and downright wrong.

I didn't believe the Sabres had a real chance, but since you think that, there's a really good chance that it's wrong and they will win.

I am guaranteeing the Rangers will win on Mar. 27. Mark it down.

Just had to get the last word in, didn't you, Thumper? :P

Hi ArlieKoz13 - The last word? This is a message board. If I had the last word or BanditsRockk11 had the last word, niether of us would ever talk to eachother again, which would completely defeat the purpose of the message board :y11:

BanditsRock11 - The Sabres, huh? Well that's refreshing.

Well, they are good now...

Right....So I noticed. I didn't want to jinx them by telling him to stick with them through thick and thin. But I don't think the Sabres will be getting thin anytime soon, so screw it.

BanditsRock11 - Then stick with them when the going gets tough like a real fan! ;)

Haha. OWNED Losman.LOL, owned?? As Losman07 showed there are two remaining players from 4 YEARS AGO!! Hell, the Sabres have more players (6) left from their last playoff team, the year before that. Afinogenov, Biron, Campbell, Dumont, Kalinin, McKee.

Not a blow. Just wondering. Dont mean to hurt anyones feelings, not that it would, Jeff is a strong person. I dont know what happend, so I should prolly shut my mouth anyway.

On a better note, glad to see ya back on the SI staff Jeff, you really know your hockey, and are a big help to that and were to the Range. On a personal note, I got no beef with ya, its just fun going back and forth on here. Keep up the good work on the Insider!

I think it's obvious.

Dude doesn't need to suffer the trials and tribulations of 2 teams. One's more than enough. ;)

This thread was doomed to begin with, I was hammered when I started it. Sure is popular though.

To switch rooting for the Islanders to rooting for the Rangers, he would have to have the remaining half of his brain removed.

And besides,there's a third choice...New Jersey.

Yeah, they play a kinda bland type of hockey. But they win consistently. You can't say that about the Isles or(this year notwithstanding)the Rangers.

Sabres have had a great year and could potentiall do well in the playoffs, it all depends on who they face. They are not going to win the cup this year i don't think, Ottawa and Detroit or pretty far ahead of them. I know they aren't in the standings but i think in a seven game series they would be pretty tough for the sabres to handle.

This team dominates without their best goalie or their two best scorers being dressed.

We'll see what happends.

See, the problem is, BR11, you chose the wrong New York team to like. The Islanders are a joke. I have no idea why you became a fan of them. It's time to become a New York Rangers as they are winners, and the Islanders are losers.

Alberta is full of racist bigots. If alberta had a bigger population I'm sure they would have a higher rate. On a side note, I think the sabres have a good a chance as any of the top tier teams in the league to win the cup.

I know you are too stupid to understand what a rate is, but it measures on a per population basis. It is independent of population, you ignorant tool.

Alberta has a much lower rate of bigotry than Ontario, home of Ernst Zundel. To hopefully educate you, that means that even if we had as many people as Ontario, there would be more racist incidents in Ontario.

Do you think that a batter having more AB will necessarily translate into a higher batting average?

Did you personally attend one of the many anti-Semitic rallies at the University of Toronto?

You made the same mistake. The Sabres are the only team in New York worth paying attention to.
