...set the tone for the rest of the game.... Tough job, he's a better enforcer than Boulton....:phaser:

agreed. I saw him challenge chris neil a couple of times and neil didn't want to go for some reason......I also had a good laugh from hasek challenging goose back there....The game was overall very chippy, and exciting! We play each other 4 more times and I can't wait!!! :guy:

I for one find it funny that all you peters bashers aren't in here! Well then, to you all.....

Am I considered a Peters basher because when guys like Connolly, Briere, and Mair are back I still don't see a place for him on the roster?

A little known fact...Peters played for Bodens IK in Sweden's Allsvenskan North league during the lockout, one in which does not allow fighting.

Interesting. But that still doesn't change the fact that he's our weakest forward on the team when it comes to pure hockey skill.

Sometimes pure skill doesn't matter....there's still room for grit on the roster.

I'm not a Peters fan either. I accept that his role is an enforcer and I don't expect much else from him but I really have a problem with his style of fighting. It really doesn't engender confidence or enthusiasm, with the exception of one lucky punch the other night.

There's a major difference between having grit and simply being an enforcer.

Drury has grit. Mair has grit. Gaustad has grit.

Peters is a policeman, an enforcer. A guy who plays for 4 minutes a game strictly because of his fists. I repsect him for it, but that's not the point.

When it comes down to it, you have 2 guys who will drop the gloves whenever they need too. Mair and Gaustad. Both of them have more hockey skill to benefit the team at both ends of the ice than Peters does. When everyone is healthy, there's no place for Peters on the active roster. Period.

There are games... like Philly, Ottawa, and such that have heavyweights.... this makes Peters valuable... you need to know that if they are gonna dress a goon we have a goon to send out there... I don't want Mair going against McGratton...or Gaustad vs Brashear.... the last thing we need is a broken fist of an important part of the team

That's a good point as well. But I wouldn't be worried if Gaustad fought Brashear or Mair fought McGratton (didn't he already fight him this year?) - Both Gaustad and Mair are as tough as oak and I've seen a lot players back down when a fight is a possibility with one of these two guys. Not that either Brashear or McGratton would ever back down from them...You do make a good point.

But when it comes down to playoff time, do you honestly see Peters being dressed at all if there's a healthy roster? Who would you sit so that Peters can maybe fight Brashear in a possible first round matchup? Would you let Ken Hitchcock force you to dress a goon instead of a more skilled player because you're worried Mair would break his hand? I sure as hell wouldn't. This roster is too deep to take the bait of an opposing coach trying to force you to deplete the skill on your bench come playoff time. That's what makes players like Gaustad and Mair so valuable.

ok we all know that 9 out of ten times mcgratton would beat goose right? ok, I hope so....Mair and mcgratton dropped the gloves once this year but the refs jumped in and gave them both 4 for roughing. I doubt peters will be dressed for the playoffs, but during the season with teams like philly, toronto, ottawa, ect. teams with fighters, you need him.

9 out of 10 times McGratton would beat up Gaustad? I think you under estimating how tough Goose is. Severly.

Gaustad beat McGrattan the only time they've fought. 9/10 times? Sure.
