Bengals WR Henry arrested on gun charges
ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) - Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with three separate gun charges.
A rookie out of West Virginia, Henry was charged with possession of a concealed firearm, improper exhibition of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm. He was released on $3,000 bail.
The Bengals had no comment on the situation Monday night, saying they still were gaining information on the incident.
According to a copy of the police report obtained by SportsTicker, Henry was stopped by a police officer who noticed an altercation brewing between two groups.
The officer saw Henry reach into his wasteband and pull out a firearm, at which point he commanded the 22-year-old put down the gun. Henry turned towards the policeman and froze before tossing the gun into a nearby limousine.
The police officer pushed Henry to the ground and ordered everyone out of the limo. After cleaning out the vehicle, the officer found a 9mm firearm, the same one he claimed Henry previously was holding.
The run-in with the law is the second in as many months for Henry, who was arrested on December 15 in Covington, Kentucky on several charges, including speeding and marijuana possession.
Through his lawyer, Henry pleaded guilty Thursday to speeding and having an improper registration. The charges that he was not carrying a driver's license or insurance were dropped.
The drug charges still are pending.
A third-round pick, Henry dropped in the draft due to character issues. He was suspended by the Mountaineers his junior year for one game and ejected from another after being called for two personal fouls after touchdowns.
Henry, who likely will face a suspension from the league, had 31 catches for 422 yards and a league rookie-high six touchdowns in 14 games this season.
