Sorry to dissapoint you sukie, but Russia and China feel that Iran must account for their actions. The deal with Russia has fallen through- Iran is as they always have been, THE major threat to us in the War on Terror.
And buddy boy, the United States and others WILL ACT, WITH the overwhelming majority in Congress, to squash any violations of any sanctions that might be imposed.
Now, according to Iran, the diplomacy is over! Hmmm... :)
Iran 'must face Security Council'
LONDON, England (AP) -- The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council reached a surprising agreement Tuesday that Iran should be hauled before the powerful body over its disputed nuclear program.
China and Russia, longtime allies and trading partners of Iran, signed up to a statement that calls on the U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, to transfer the Iran dossier to the Security Council, which could impose sanctions.
The IAEA meets in Vienna on Thursday.
Though the United States, Britain and France have been pressing to hand Iran's case to the Security Council, it had been unclear whether China and Russia would support such a move.

It's a decade away... Sanctions and countless resolutions stackedon top of each other... At least it will give us a chance to arm up.

That is one way to withdraw our troops from Iraq, just send them all to Iran. I guess that might satisfy politicians from across a broad spectrum. We get out of Iraq which will please the left and we get into Iran which will please the right.
Seriously, I'm no military strategist but I gotta believe a war with Iran would make Iraq look like a game of checkers with your grandpa. The majority of the Iraqi people, ie, Shiites, hated Saddam. I don't think they were all that interested in fighting for him. Iran would involve a very motivated, highly nationalistic populace ready to fight for as long as it takes. I picture pre-WWII Japan.
I hope they find a better way.

I wouldn't be too sure... the ruling class and their fradulent elections aren't much of a threat. It is true that Iran is heavy on the Shia side, but the world just won't stand for these nut cases to get a hold of a nuclear weapon program. The Japanese were heavily involved in their military, and were taught from childhood how to live that way. The only reason why there is an extremist ruling class is because the Shah was such a bad ruler!!

I am not crazy about my government either but if it were threatened by a foreign power, I would defend it to the death. I have been hearing about moderates inside Iran being on the verge of taking over since around 1988 or so. We are still waiting for that to happen. The defense they put up in their war with Iraq was brutal. I don't see why they would be any less inspired to fight us.
Saddam was not really a military threat and hadn't been since the first Gulf War. I think Iran could turn into a nightmare.
