What's more impressive? Kobe Bryant getting 81 points on 46 shots, or JJ Redick getting 40 points, on only 13 shots?
I have to go with JJ Redick here. College ball is much tougher to score in, and Kobe's a hog.

i will also go with JJ Redick, though he will never be able to do anything close in the Pros. Who was Redick doing it against?

Kobe gets props for 81, but Redick also shot 85% from the field, going 8 for 10 from 3 point land. Thats pretty impressive.

Not to mention that Redick also plays TEAM basketball.
Redick is POY over Morrison too. Morrison is scoring a lot....like Redick, but take their last games for example. Morrison scored 42 points taking twice as mnay shots at Redick shot to get 40.

The college 3 point line is a chip shot and the Duke offense is designed to set endless screens for Redick on a much longer shot clock.
I am more impressed with Bryant's feat, and I can't stand him.

I wouldn't say he wont be able to do anything close in the pros. IMO he's another Reggie Miller. If he lands on a team that needs a shooter or is set up to have one or some, like Phoenix he could get up a ton of threes, and make a bunch. And remember also, that when he shoots his threes, alot of them are from like 4-6 feet behind the college line, and that easily equals pro distance.

Second highest point total ever in basketball? I dont care how many shots he took, someone should be able to slow him down. Kobe hands down.

Only one person has ever scored more points in an NBA game than Kobe. Jordan never did it, Bird never did it, Pistol Pete never did it, neither did Kareem.
Also I totally disagree with the idea that people in the NBA don't play defense. Name me a player who has come out of college and made the all-NBA defensive team in his first year. Shouldn't it happen every year, seeing as how these college guys play defense. The fact is that NBA players are just so good at what they do that it is impossible to just shut them down. How impressive is it for future NBA players to shut down guys who won't be playing pro anywhere in their futures?

20 years of watching Duke studs turn to duds in the pros tells me otherwise

So What? Did it ever occure to you that maybe Jordan, Bird, Pete, and Kareem didnt want to do it. That they thought the team was more important than the individule

There is virtually no defense in the NBA today. There are only about 4 teams that actually play it and focus on it.
College guys have to play defense or else there a$$ will be on the bench. Its not a choice in college. College kids who play great D are not drafted high or at all, b/c the NBA is an offensive game.
Look at the game Kobe scored 81. The Raptors looked like they could care less. They didnt even double him or start fouling the crap out of him to slow him down. It was a joke. Kobe scoring 50 on Artest would be more impressive than scoring 81 on the Raptors in the middle on Jan

Hog perfectly describes Redick, he shoots way too much. He did have a great night on only 13 shots but that is very rare and he alwqys goes to the line when he is not fouled and scored 10 from the FT line. Not to mention they gave him a 3 pointer when he was about 2 feet in front of the 3P line on 1 attempt. he had one of those very rare great 3P shooting nights so considering he made 8(really 7 but they gave him 8) and had 10 pts on Fts his 40 is not nearly as impressive as Kobe.

:supbro2: You don't watch much of him do you? All Redick cares about are his points. he scores alot b/c he shoots mroe than anyone else. He's having a career year % wise and his % STILL are NOT great and he's also still a big choker in late game situations.

And doing it against a very average Virginia team (4-3)(10-7) is amazingly impressive?
Call me when Reddick drops even 50 in the NBA, let alone 81.
Plus, the Raptors have 6 rookies on their team, which means they should be awesome defenders since college basketball players are such excellent defenders.

they're both impressive performances. id like to give a slight edge to reddick for the efficient 3 point shooting... but its college 3's, chris webber shoots from that range all day, every day, in the pros and made a pretty good career out of it. not to mention college games take less time than pro games.
if reddick had 60 or 70 pts with a high fg%, & few shots att. then ya have something. kobes' 81 is 81 pts nba, college, europe....that is a lot of points. ball hog? sure. shot a lot of shots to get it? yup.
i cant stand kobe, and i was impressed.
