Do you think Roger Federer is more dominant in Tennis than Tiger Woods in Golf? On a side note, do you think Woods will catch Nicklaus' Majors Records, and Federer catch Sampras?

Easily Roger Federer. The dude is just so much better than the rest of the competition. 7 straight wins in Slam Finals, only 4 losses in his last 97 matches. He'll easily catch and pass Pete. He could be the best tennis player ever.

I'm taking Tiger Woods. I may not like his Montana-like personality, but he is by far a dominating figure in a sport where wins are PREMIUM.

Right now, Im taking Roger Federer. Federer is at the point Woods was at 3 or 4 years ago. He is clearly the dominant player in his sport. Woods is still number 1, but not by the margin that Federer is. But Woods did taste this kind of dominance not too long ago.

Put it this way, I know who Tiger Woods is; I don't know who this Roger Feederer guy is. I stopped watching tennis when Jimmy Conners retired. Once they stopped using wooden rackets (think baseball), it completely changed the game to a point where it's now all muscle and no strategy. Kind of like the difference between watching an arm wrestling match as opposed to watching a game of chess. One is brawn. The other is brains. The one thing that tennis, arm wrestling, and chess have in common is that they are all boring to watch.
As for Tiger reaching Jack's records, barring injury or getting hit by a bus, I think he'll break all of the records. Not only that he'll set a new bar for others to follow. There are lots of new talented golfers on the tour now from all over the world. A few years ago Tiger was the best driver, the best iron player, and one of the best putters on the tour. He's still one of the best in all three categories, but he's by far and away the best at handling the pressure -- especially on Sunday, in sudden death as he proved yesterday.

Whether you know about him or not doens't really say much about talent. Federer is on a rampant pace and is almost definitely going to take out Sampras' grand slam record.

I have to agree with Wilbon and Kornheiser on this one, It has to be Woods. He beats 120 guys at once while Federer only has to beat 6-7 guys.

I'll take Federer, and I'll use the argument that Mike Greenberg used on M&M. While Tiger Woods has to be 120 people to win a tournament, he can have a bad day or two and still come back and win. There is less room for error in Tennis. You have to win the match to move on. There is no tomorrow. So on a consistent basis, tennis tournaments are a little bit more competitive to win.

As good as Federer is, the men's tennis tour doesn't have the same kind of talent at the top that it once did. I don't think he would be nearly as dominant if he had to play the same kind of talent every tourney that Conners, McEnroe, and Borg did every time out.
In golf, however, the tour is currently loaded with talent. And it just seems to be getting better and better. Yet Tiger continues to beat all comers (for the most part).
I'll take Tiger.

I have to agree with one of the ATH guys. Woods has stared down and beaten every Major winner who's still playing. Federer seems to be the only top notch player now in tennis. He doesn't have any competition. The only majors he hasn't won, were won by no-names. I have to take Woods.

Exactly my thoughts.
Tiger has the toughest competition of all. The difference between the top 100 in golf is not much. It comes down to mental toughness and consistency.
Just the fact that a tennis player can win so many major tournaments while the record for major wins in golf is only 18…2nd place is 11…for a guy who played during the 1920’s (Walter Hagen) . Then there is Tiger with 10.
Following is a hand full of players with 9 to 5 wins. There are only FIVE players in the history of golf that have won all four majors in their career.
Tiger is one of them.
Only two that have done it twice.
Tiger is one of them.
Tiger does not dominate every tournament like Federer might but the difference is that Tiger is competing with ALL the players in the whole history of golf.
As for Tiger beating Jack for more than 18 majors. It is easy to say that he will have no problem but I think it is tougher than it seems. Otherwise there would be more than just three golfers that have double digit wins.
In the end I believe that Tiger will get 20 wins…topping over 100 years of golfers…making his domination of a sport far beyond Federer's.

Federor is more dominating right now. 7 out of the last 11 slams. I think both Tiger and Federor will both retire with the most slams in their respective sports.
