Fuming Over $50 Parking Tickets

Living in an apartment building without designated parking can be a real hassle. So what's with the $50 parking tickets?

That's the question Rachel Stewart and Wilson Stephens want answered. They are tenants in an apartment building on the corner of Summer and Elmwood. There is no designated parking. Every night they park across the street in a plaza parking lot.

However, there's a sign in the parking lot that says "NO PARKING OVERNIGHT" and "NO PARKING AFTER MIDNIGHT."

Stephens has been parking there for 11 years. "If we're a city of good neighbors, how is this neighborly?"

2 On Your Side learned from the city of Buffalo Parking Enforcement division, that the company that manages the plaza called on the city to ticket the cars at 2 a.m.

Benchmark Management Corporation issued a statement about the parking problems and why they are taking action. "The Stuyvesant Plaza parking lot has always been intended for the use of the tenants and active customers of the Plaza. Benchmark Management Corporation has decided to enforce the 'NO OVERNIGHT PARKING and 'PARKNG RESTRICTED' signs that are posted in the parking lot. This action is due to the fact that the snow plowing and parking lot maintenance work has been greatly hampered by the amount of illegally parked vehicles in this lot."
