He probably will be after going in the stands last night, but how do you tell a guy not to go protect his family? He thought someone was attacking his wife, so i cant blame him at all. Stern may try to "send a message" but family comes before work in my mind

MPW,I can agree with that. It might have been a bad decision to go into the stands, but I can certainly understand why Davis went into the stands. Personally,I don't think David Stern will slap him down with that long of a suspension...anywhere from 2-5 games and a decent-sized fine will probably be his punishment.

Stern has to punish him, there's no way this can go unpunished. Going into the stands is unacceptable for an athlete, even if a family member is being harassed, play the game, let security handle that

i bet you would feel differently if you were a player watching your wife get assaulted. I dont even let people talk to my wife with disrespect let alone touch her...job be dammed

I personally see where Stern is coming from, but in a matter like this, I can't see how you can hand out a suspension. Sure, he broke a league rule, but when he entered the stands, he was peaceful and civil, and didn't threaten anyone. He went in there because he believed his wife was in danger, and I would hope that any other player would get the same instinct to do so.

If anything, you suspend him one game. Not five, that's just too much, as he was only trying to protect his wife.

I agree w/ what he did and I would have done the same.

But in the same instant he does have to be suspended. I'm not saying to the full extant but it should be known to all NBA players that no matter what going into the stands is going to result in a penalty

He got 5 Games which I think is fair

Toronto's R. Jay Soward didn't get suspended for going into the stands to get a bag of popcorn after scoring a touchdown this season.

It was harmless and he was ejected. He shouldn't get suspended for what he did. at least not five games. One would be enough.

The funny thing is, Davis would even get more criticized if he didn't go to the stands at all to protect his wife.

Props to Antonio. Stupid decision by Stern.

I would have hit him with a $5,000 fine and a 1 game suspension. This satisfies the need to have a suspension no matter when a player enters the stands but also acknowleges the unique situation Davis found himself in. 5 games is too much in my view.

He did what he had to do but he still entered the stands. Just imagine for a second if some idiot had started something with him while he was in the stands and another Pacers/Pistons type thing erupted. For everyone's benefit all players need to stay on the court.

With that said, I think 5 games was a bit much. 3 would have fit the situation.

While I understand your point, just think if he would have not gone into the stands and somethig did happen to his wife. He would have never been able to live with himself. As a husband and a father myself, there's no way I could stop myself from going into the stands to protect my family even as a precautionary measure. I don't think this thought process was ever thought of when the rules for such things were developed.

No he should. But he will/did. For me family always comes first, job, sports, whatever family is always number one.
