People, mainly the Senecas, are adament of their preference of having a casino in Cheektowaga over Buffalo. Needless to say, these people are morons.

Cheektowaga has long been synonomous with gaudy displays. At one time in the late 80's, it had more pink plastic flamingo lawn ornaments per capita than any other town in America. Though that is hard to confirm.

Because of this unabashed gaudiness it became derisively referred to as Cheektavegas. As the Las Vegas reputation has improved over the last 15 years, so to has the pride that town residents take in the name "Cheektavegas". It is not so derogatory anymore.

The possibilty of a real casino being located in "Cheektavegas" is an ironic twist on what was once an insult hurled from those living in West Seneca, Depew, and Lancaster.

It's more affectionately known as Cheektowarsaw....for it's predominantly Polish population.
