Ex-Buckeye Clarett accused of robbing couple at gunpoint
Jan. 1, 2006
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett was accused of using a gun to rob two people in an alley behind a bar early Sunday, police said.

Clarett, 22, who helped the Buckeyes win the national championship in 2002, fled when the bar owner or manager, who knew Clarett and the victims, came into the alley and identified him shortly before 2 a.m.

According to police, Clarett left the scene in a white sport utility vehicle with two other men and got only a cell phone from his alleged victims, who weren't injured. He was wanted on two counts of suspicion of aggravated robbery.

Clarett sat out the 2003 season after he was charged with misdemeanor falsification for filing a police report claiming that more than $10,000 in clothing, CDs, cash and stereo equipment was stolen from a car he borrowed from a local dealership. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Ohio State suspended Clarett for misleading investigators, and for receiving special benefits worth thousands of dollars from a family friend.

He later began an unsuccessful legal fight that went to the U.S. Supreme Court to be allowed in the NFL early. Clarett was chosen by the Denver Broncos in last year's draft, but the team cut him in August.

Teenager has world-class football talent.

Teenager gets everything handed to him on a silver platter.

Teenager grows selfish and arrogant, family lets him and condones it.

Teenager gets full ride, amazing pub, and a National Championship.

Teenager thinks he is a football God, and can say or do anything he wants.

Teenager crosses the line, and is busted for it.

Teenager tries to portray himself like he is a MAN, but fails.

Teenager ends up with nothing, and doesn't know how to deal with people, work hard, or be a human being.

Teenager hits rock bottom.

Maurice Clarett STILL is not a man- he's an overgrown teenager.

You ALMOST feel bad for him for the way he has been rasied and how he is now broke witho no real education (b/c of the debt he created thinking he'd be a top pick, then not getting a SB and being cut), ALMOST.

Somebody should have stepped in to help him early on.

I feel bad for him in the sense that nobody ever cared about him as a person cause he could run the rock.... I bet he tries to kill himself.

You mean that money Tressel gave him is gone already?

Sounds like spending at OSU has went down a bit since the mid '90's.

It tells you what kind of a family raised him- I don't care what apologists are out there. Pretty sad.

Oh sorry nevermind. I was thinking of the basketball coach. It was the boosters who gave Maurice that money. My bad.

Those aren't rumors. It's gonna happen. You can only blatantly ignore NCAA rules for so long until they come after you. Ohio State has had the dirtiest football program in the country since the early 90's. Their basketball program isn't very clean either.
