If it turns out that Mika wasn't hurt, there is no need to keep Lindy Ruff on this team.
WHY would you put Biron in cold against Nylander and Jagr?
**** YOU LINDY
EDIT: Mika was hurt. I retract all statements of hate towards Lindy.

i don't think he was hurt either, i was watching the game and i noticed that when the game ended Biron hopped off the bench and had his helmet on, i found that to be very strange. The only explanation would be that Biron has had success vs Nylander and Jagr in the past, this is not baseball you don't being a reliever in to face the lefty.

This adds on to the weird lack of a TO with 27 seconds left.
Jay McKee says Mika hurt his groin.

As per Jay McKee on the Shootout postgame show Mika pulled his groin halfway through the 3rd period, so SHUT UP!!!!!!!!

I was wondering the same thing at the end of the game. Ruff might have a little Mularky in him. He overthought the situation. Sometimes the simple answer is the best.

NHL rulebook: Rule 89,section B,note C:
"Once the shootout begins, the goalkeeper can not be replaced unless he is injured. No warmup shall be permitted for a substitute goalkeeper."
I know Lindy's not a popular guy here, but his hands may very well have been tied.
Nice to see daryl subscribes to the Occam's Razor theory.
This :bs: debate/thread ENDS NOW.

They thought he could fight through it, but it was obvious after the first attempt he couldn't.

Exactly Hurls and Bduff. Why not have Biron face all 3 shooters instead of him just jumping in?

why so they blow a point? mika got them to OT getting them a point, jeez use your brain. Mika wanted to finish but was no use in the shootout you seen he barely moved on the straka goal, plus Drury is no shootout guy, bad choice in my opinion, would have rather had Vanek or Connoly

if he hurt himself in midway through the third he shouldn't have been in there for nylanders tieing goal.

Tough call, to be honest. It depends in what part of the 3rd period Mika got hurt. Do you bring in a cold Marty late in the 3rd, in OT, or in a SO?
Pax.

So using a hurt guy makes up for choosing the wrong shooters and goalie? Ruff is an idiot. Admit it.

Briere was the Captain tonight and he did score. Vanek should have been in there for the Shootout.

Hasek was hurt during the entire Queefs series in 1999. Ruff played an injured goalie then. How did you feel about that?

You should, because the Sabres have absolutely OWNED your team since he's been coach.
So much so that you consider a .500 record against us "ownership" of us.

Apples and Oranges. For one it was a playoff series, lay it all on the line all or nothing (and every other cliche you can think of).
Secondly, Hasek is an all-star goaltender far better than his backup (I think it was Rolosson). The gap between Hasek, even a hurt Hasek, and Rolosson was far greater than Noronen and Biron (despite some people's delusions of grandeur that Noronen is the answer). Noronen may be better than Biron when healthy (IMO, it still remains to be seen), but definitely not when he is hurt, as evident in the first shootout goal when the guy didn't even move or attempt to make the save.

Can we please stop with the "Martin Biron is the Rob Johson of NHL goaltenders" tirade? The guy is .500 since taking over after Miller's injury, which is all we hoped for to begin with.
I understand that people think Noronen is a better goaltender, and that just might be the case, but it still remains to be seen. Noronen has played two games allowing two goals each, very solid and very impressive, but it is only two games. He was doing this in '03-'04. Playing one or two solid games, and then 3 or 4 crap games afterwards. We still have yet to see if Noronen can handle this long term. History suggests he can't, but it still remains to be seen. All I am saying is that Noronen is not the savior (Miller is). Biron is starting tonight and certain people act as if the apocolypse is coming he has won 4 games and lost 4. I'll take that over the performances of alot of goaltenders in this league.

whoa whoa whoa, let's not be hasty here. Ruff still sucks and Ruff should still be fired. At the very least we shouldn't have had to wait for the Boston game to see what Noronen had to offer. That's just inexcusbale when Biron is letting in like 4+ goals a game.

You need to check for a chemical leak in your house, carbon monoxide maybe? Mika has had a chip on his shoulder and had not deserved starting time thanks to his attitude in practices and throughout training camp. Mika isnt stupid, he knows he's the odd man out and did not prepare with any effort until AFTER Miller was injured. Let's face it, if either goalie stood on their heads in practice and showed they truly wanted it, they would have earned the ice time. Lindy has been fair with players provided they execute what is expected of them. What part of that philosophy makes him a poor coach? If Olczyk can remain employed, Ruff is more than safe and still coveted in this league.

Ruff dosen't suck. the Sabres roster sucks. They need more talent, you can't win consistently with that roster.

Neither Ruff nor the roster sucks.
For those who haven't figured it out. The sabres need to be in the hunt with this roster come January. If they are, then Regeir probably has permission to pick up a name or two to push the team over the hump.

I am not a big fan of Ruff, though I would not fire him for this game alone, Ruff should have replaced Noronen for the start of the OT period, allowed Biron the time to warm up. If we had lost in OT, oh well, same as losing in a shootout.

I think Ruff made the right decision considering his and Noronen's past. Noronen said he felt he could go but it was up to Ruff, so Ruff let him stay in there for the first goal. When he saw that Noronen was not going down very fast, he pulled him.
Ruff show confidence in Noronen, which is bigger than the loss.

Then say why he should be canned, rather than inventing reasons why. All the fools that were saying Ruff should be canned were basing their ill-informed view on nothing more than ignorance.
He should be fired because Noronen waited until the Boston game? What has Noronen shown in the past two seasons to indicate he is better than Biron?
