What was the last time the Pirates had a winning season. Hasn't it been 10+ years? The past 11 years the Yankees have been in the postseason.

What's your excuse for having an outlandish payroll and not being able to win the World Series almost every year? Why are teams like the Marlins, Diamondbacks, and Angels beating you?

I have an excuse- its called a $30 million payroll while our best players get shipped off. What's YOUR excuse for having a $150 million+ payroll and not performing?

Crickets chirp.

I know, we should win the World Series with a $200+ payroll, but I think we'll cut this payroll down this offseason.

I honestly think Cashman is a bum, and Joe Torre should NEVER have to explain himself to ANYONE. Cashman should be fired IMMEDIATELY, and replaced with someone competent. If Steinbrenner is overruling Cashman when it comes to pricey acquisitions such as Kevin Brown, then Torre should resign. Simple as that...

This season notwithstanding,Cashman's got a good enough track record that if he gets ashcanned,he'll be out of a job for...oh,maybe a week. Anyone that can deal with Steinbrenner on an extended basis deserves a medal.

Last year I went to see the Pirates and the Astros in a double header. I can't remember the pitchers name, something like Oliver Perez, but he pitched a great game that day. I didn't hear anything on him this year, is he still considered a top prospect?

Oliver Perez is still a top prospect, even though he had a down year. All of his numbers were not a product of bad Pirates offense a lot of times. He injured himself while kicking a laundry cart after pitching a bad game against St. Louis, and came back for a couple starts.

Based upon this season, although he is the Number 1 guy de facto, Zach Duke may be THE guy come April, and another lefty prospect, Paul Maholm, might knock Perez down to Number 3.

The new manager, Jim Tracy, is a pitching whiz, and will sort it all out. Perez is still an unknown quantity until Tracy works with him and tries to help him completely 'get it'. Is Oliver the great pitcher of 2004 or the schizoid pitcher of 2005? Time will tell.
