I'll give the Yanks their due: they battled like hell to get into the playoffs. And their gift? Going cross-country to face what's probably the hottest team in the AL right now. Gee,thanks a bunch.

Its gonna be a Yankee win easily !!

I think RJ is the Yankees ACE. :) But anyway, I'm not exactly sold on Moose after that last outing(7 Runs in 1 inning or so). I'm glad that Small is in the bullpen. His play almost warrants him a spot in the rotation.

Well,if the Red Sox play like they did today in Chicago, you won't have to worry about them.

The Yankees are the most dangerous team in the playoffs.

The hell they are.

That honor goes to Houston. Reason: They have 3 damned good starters(Clemens,Pettitte and Oswalt)and one filthy guy out of the bullpen(Lidge). Their offense may not be great, but if they can get a few runs, odds are the pitching will make it stand up. Right now,Houston scares me more than the Yanks do.

Look at it this way. Throughout the regular season while all the pitchers where getting so banged. Mussina pulled his weight.

Now its time to

Um, except when he was shut down during the stretch run and couldn't get out of the 2nd inning vs. Baltimore . . .

Musina is a good pitcher, but not an ace. He has never won 20 in one season - he is too inconsistent. He will have very good games - like last night. He will have bad games - like the one against Baltimore. And, (my personal favorite) he will have games when he will look like the best pitcher on the planet and then suddenly have the wheels completely fall off and not be able to get anyone out - like he did against Cleveland at the Jake in August.

He is a valuable member of a staff, and has a pretty good post season record, but he is not an ace.

Moose was awesome !! ... good to see his back to his usual form. One of my favorite Yankees

Wow this thread went wild last night....LOL!
(Where were the posts? I was expecting something like last Saturday! Oh well!)

Sorry I couldn't be here last night to post. I was planning to but at the last second my cousin-in-law (same one I mentioned last Saturday) called and invited me over to watch the game on the big screen. Couldn't pass that up along with free pizza/wings and pop!

As for tonight, its a 10:00 pm ET start so I should be home from the Sabres opener in time for first pitch. Go ahead and make a Yankees at Angels-Game #2 thread as I'll be posting in it!

Gotta go drink some WANG-TANG!

LETS GO YANKEES!!!

Hopefully its another great day of baseball!
Yankees win, White Sox win and Astros win!

Yanks beat themselves tonight with poor defense and lack of offense, very similar to Boston's fall this same evening... Fortunately for New York, they got the split...

Randy Johnson should have stayed in Arizona.:mad2:

Well our season comes down to this Game 5 in the Angels house. Moose vs Colon w/ both teams ready to throw the houses at each other

I think this game is going to come down to who gets the lead first. If one of the teams manages to have a 3 run lead by the 5th it is more than likely over for the other.

I think (and hoping) the final score will be 4-3 Yankees

John
October 10th, 2005, 11:12:54 AM
I think the Yanks need 7 strong from the Moose if they are going to win. The Yanks pen is just too soft, and the LAA always seem to get the 2 out base hit. If it gets into the pen early, look for another Game 3. If Moose is on, look for a game 1.

I think this is going to be a close one.

See this is what I think tips the odds slightly in the favor of the Angels if Moose isnt on then we are in big trouble. But if Colon isnt on for the Angels then its not as a big a deal b/c they are so deep in the pen

If Moose only goes 3 we are in big trouble unless the middle of our lineup all of a sudden starts to get hot

I wonder if the Big Unit would come out of the pen if the Moose needed to be pulled early. After watching the Rocket yesterday, its possible. Wang is definitely available.

A-Rod has been very quiet. I can hear the talk about him already if the Yanks lose and he continues to bat 140. Shef had been quiet until the RBI single yestrerday, which was a big hit. Jeter has also been slumping - despite getting a couple clutch RBI's in the last two games.

Jeter may be the key - the Yanks seldom loose when he has a big game. It would be great to see the Yanks get a few in the first and give the Moose some room to manuver.

John
October 10th, 2005, 10:00:15 PM
Well, the Unit is on and this looks a lot more like game 3 than game 1. The "triple" was a killer - should have been out of the inning and instead its two runs. Overcomming a two run give away in a game like this is a tall order.

Merk
October 10th, 2005, 10:30:25 PM
We are in trouble right now

We need 3 runs before the 8th b/c I think we will see K-Rod in a 2 inning save situation

The Yanks have left men on base every inning. Matsui is having a bad night at the wrong time - he has ended three innings tonight, I think. Men left on base is the story right now - as much as Fox is pumping up santana, there have been men on base.

I agree, Matsui and Sheff have had 2 chances to bring runners in tonight and have both popped out in a row

Go White Sox and Astros, would like to see some new blood in there.

You see I had faith in the Cards last year but then they went to the World Series and got flat out embarresed by the Red Sox. This year I dont have that much faith b/c Ive seen what good pitching does to that line up. So say what you will about the Yankees, the Cards have proved nothing but to be as big as chokers as the Yankees lately. The Yankees have been to the playoffs 10 years in a row and won 4 titles in that time while the Cards have done nothing. So yea laugh it up but your team still has to win a best of 7 against a team w/ arguably the 3 out of the best 5 pitchers in the NL then if they get through that they have to go face 1 of 2 AL teams that have great starting pitching and loaded Bull Pens.
