Everyone keeps making it sound like the Leafs are one of the big losers of this offseason
I really like their apparent strategy.
They were in one of the worst positions b/c of the new deal, but they have signed a bunch of question mark guys to 1 year contracts. If they work out, they could be a true contender. If they don't, they'll have much more room next year unlike some of these teams that signed guys to long term deals.

i wouldn't say true contender either but they will make the playoffs and unfortunately the sabres won't. As a fan thats all i can ask for, I too like what the leafs have done thus far.

As always, they will be fun to watch. It'll be interesting to see how quickly all those "superstars" gel and find some chemistry.
...MAN am I looking forward to those EIGHT games against the Leafs this year...YEEEE-HAW!!! :-)

So bduff, I heard you're hosting a few of us for a Leafs/Sabres game. Sounds cool.

lo, sure but we would have to watch it on TV. No way we could all afford to get good seats in the ACC.

Why do the Leafs have such a better shot at making the playoffs than the Sabres? Because of Allison and Lindros? They both might not even play 40 games this year. You don't know that. You also don't know that the Sabres WON'T make the playoffs. How can you make such broad and unjustified statements?

Another "expecting them to be bad" poster. Notice that, all you Sabre-fan nay-sayers?? You and bduff the Leaf fan think the Sabres are going to be terrible, without 1 puck dropping. You're all in good company.

The Queefs and Sabres have roughly figured out half their roster. You remain an idiot.

You;re right Thumper we should be sweet, I can easily look past the fact that we have a weaker team than the last what...5 years where we've missed the playoffs...
I can look past the fact that we still have 3 young, can't miss goalie prospects, none of which have proven they didn't miss...
I can look past the fact that the sabres didn't benefit at all for the CBA, but in fact are worse for it... I bet we've have higher salaries than 28.5 mil in the past.

I'm not saying we'll be "sweet". I'm just not jumping on the band wagon of negativity you seem to be driving in every single thread. None of us really know much of anything about the way the season will pan out yet. Are you forgetting that we've missed the playoffs every year since Hasek left? We still had Zhitnik and Satan every season since. How do you know this team will be weaker, when the roster isn't even set??? You have no idea who could be manning our blueline by game 1 of the season. You're whining about nothing until that is set in stone.
Goaltending is a question mark, just like our beginning season roster. How do you know all of these things will be bad? How do you know Miller won't be our #1, and play admirably? How do you know Noronen could be #1 after a fantastic season in Finland, and carry it over to the NHL? You don't know **** about any of it. None of us do.
We have had higher salaries than 28.5 million in the past, yes. BEFORE the 24% salary roll back, or did you forget about that as well?
