yeah, i was reading that last night, then i looked up his stats:
03/04, 72 games played, 12 points, -22 [!]

but he's tough and hits like crazy. i haven't really seen him play too much though, so does his defensive presence, experience and toughness make up for his downsides?

Witt can play. Tough, good d man. Just remember his numbers are due to a terrible Caps team that he played on.

It would be a huge addition to get a guy like him. We haven't had a tough rugged defenseman since Boughner.

and his contract is for $1,672,000 for one year, so if he's no good we move on. i think it'd be a good pickup - but what do we give in return. and there's very little chance he'd consider us a cup contender. we're quite the long shot at this point.

i'm not a big fan of Witt. He's a tough D, but he makes too many mistakes. His offensive skills are average and his mobility is weak.

Its too bad the Crapitals wouldnt take Biron and a pick for Witt. Then they could dump Kolzig's ridiculous salary and the Sabres could free up their log jam in net.
