Very loosely ranked. And I'm going a bit for diversity.

Led Zeppelin - III (Brilliant mix of blues, folk and rock)
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Yes - Close To The Edge (Best symphonic rock recording)
Led Zeppelin - I (for the raw power alone)
Pink Floyd - Animals
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
The Who - Who's Next (Best album by one of the most important rock bands)
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame (Jazz-Rock. Weee!)
Gentle Giant - Octopus (Hard Rock mixed with Jazz and Renaissance music. Works very well)
Van der Graaf Generator - Godbluff

I don't know if I could cobble together an airtight Top 10, and most everybody else's picks look solid, but I think one CD that should be added is "Legend," the compilation of Bob Marley's greatest hits.

That is the one reggae album that everyone seems to own.

I like Woody's reference to David Allen Coe...

Rob's mention of Marley... except I love Babylon by Bus.

Jro's mention of Eminem.

shiva's love of ministry... I have Psalm 69 and A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste.

neh's mention of neil Young... Golden Harvest is a great album, but Southern Man has to be one of my all-time favorite jams.

twoshed's mention of The Who... truly a great album

as far as soundtracks are concerned... I have two... Singles and Kill Bill I and II
