Does anyone know how to get rid of this malware? It has hijacked my desktop with an unremovable URL link to the Antivirus Gold purchase site. It says that it will remove the desktop URL if you purchase the SW. IT also planted 3 viruses in my PC that it says it can get rid of. Norton Anti-virus (just updated yesterday) found them but cannot get rid of them.

If you've got Ad-ware or Spybot, trying using them to ditch AntiVirus Gold.

Format your computer and start over, easiest and best way to do it plus your computer will run a whole lot better afterwards.

if you dont want to do that and go through the bother of backing up stuff you dont want to lose and you'd rather just get rid of the virus, i suggest going to majorgeeks.com

even if you find a way to get rid of these things on your computer, you could do more damage by removing the virus partially.

the ppl over at majorgeeks.com will take you through the steps that will get rid of the virus completely

...also do a google search of the virus. you might find that others have had the problem and it will tell you how do remove it sometimes

Anything other then a format is not a fixing a problem. These things screw your computer up even after they are removed most of the time. Just format it really isn't that big of a hassle, if you have a second hdd just move some of your word docs and what-not over there...otherwise throw them on a dvd or something. It is only like a couple hour process and you will be running again like your computer was brand new.

Like some one above said ... run your computer in safe mode, and then run norton ... OR ... if you have broadband internet ... disable the connection and remove the internet cable from your computer, then run norton. If neither work, then do both together, disable internet, disconnect cable and run in safe mode, then run norton. It sounds like this virus runs with an internet connection, so if it's not there, it may let norton remove it then. I would try spybot or search&destroy last, I don't like using those programs, and use them as a last resort.

You guys just haven't done it before, it's easy as hell. I try to do it every few months just to do it, makes my computer run a lot better. Over time your hard drive gets cluttered with so much crap and your computer runs a whole lot worse as a result.

Same here. You'll be amazed how zippy everything feels after a reformat / reinstall. But it can be a major hassle the first time you do it. You don't really notice how many programs / drivers you have on your comp until you go through having to put them all back on there.
