If I were a GM I'd be very wary of taking Mike Patterson. Despite what that website says in its assessment of Patterson, it looks to me like he's undersized and not very fast considering his size. He reminds me a bit of Dan Klecko who was an undersized nose tackle coming out of college. Bill Belichick hasn't figured out where to play him. He's been tried at DT and ILB but can't get on the field in either capacity. The only difference is Klecko is faster. I think he has good technique, and has been productive in college, but he's been surrounded by great players on a dominant team. I don't hink he'd hold up in the pro game on the interior and I donh't think he's fast enough to do anything else.

The only thing about Klecko is you hear his name called after he makes a big play. I'll take effort over size. That's why I say work him towards being Freeney-like.

Actually, I think Jonathan Babineaux might be a better candidate to move outside.

I just said that because they said he was hard to block.
That is what we need from the LE pos. Someone who can avoid contact not sit there and wrestle with the linemen.

See. Just letting you guys know I have an eye for talent.
4. Mike Patterson
I've been calling Patterson the "Dwight Freeney" of defensive tackles, because he is undersized, but he can be unblockable at times. He is quick and proved throughout his college career that he could get past much bigger linemen. In the right system, Patterson will step right in and make an immediate impact.

Undersized quick DEs are the norm. Not 6-7 hoping to attemp a pass breakup.

He's a DT though.

I think he will get swallowed up in the middle. I'd use his quickness outside. Loop him on stunts or something.
Patterson is not the prototypical NFL defensive tackle. He's short and undersized for the position,

but he is very strong, I don't think he's fast enough to play outside
