View Full Version : BBI Mock Draft
Mouldsie
March 7th, 2005, 10:22:04 PM
We will be holding a mock draft this year and members of the site will be able to sign up and select a team and be the GM. We will use the regular draft order and no trades will be allowed (we did one with trades once and it got out of hand :D).
I will begin with allowing 16 members to have a team. We can't let 32 do it because there are always a bunh of guys who don't show up.
ONLY SIGN UP IF YOU CAN COMMIT TO 2 TEAMS AND WILL BE AVAILABLE THE WEEK OF THE DRAFT
I will pair teams up so that they pick near each other (e.g. anyone with SF also gets Miami)
I will allow people to select the pairing they would like on a first come first serve basis.
The pairs are:
1) San Francisco and Miami - Rocketman
2) Cleveland and Chicago - SweetLee83
3) Tampa Bay and Tennessee - GSWJ23RICHARDSON
4) Oakland and Arizona - mattrose
5) Washington and Detroit - FknGvna (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=6423)<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_870517", true); </SCRIPT>
6) Dallas and NY (G) - Hurls - DC | pigskin - NYG
7) Houston and Carolina - swami jr (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=4567)<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_870375", true); </SCRIPT>
8) Kansas City and New Orleans - admarc (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=298)<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_870397", true); </SCRIPT>
9) Cincinnatti and Minnessotta - gonzo1105
10) St Louis and Buffalo - MOULDSROCKS
11) Jacksonville and Baltimore - 1968_bills_fan (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=2130)
12) Seattle and Green Bay - billspwn (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=2130)
13) Denver and NY (J) - jaymitch84 (http://www.buffalorange.com/member.php?u=6630)<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_870587", true); </SCRIPT>
14) Atlanta and San Diego - EM BILLSFAN 80
15) Indianapolis and Pittsburgh - RockyTopBill
16) Philadelphia and New England - wolfpack
The Draft will begin on Saturday April 2nd at 8:00 PM (and hopefully be done before the actual draft :D). I want things to run fairly quickly so if you sign up be sure to check the site every day for updated selections. I know people have to work and go to school (me included) so if you cannot vistit daily please don't participate.
If you miss your first round selections your picks/teams will be given to a new member.
If you miss your second-seventh round selections the team in front of you may select players for you (based on what they feel would be best for your team not just some random people).
If you miss 2 rounds in a row your teams will be granted to a different willing member.
Your objective is to build the best team you can.
If your pick is coming up but you will be busy, it would be appreciated if you could PM your preferred selections (ranked 1-at least 3) to me and/or any poster that has already drafted in that round (so somebody who picks before you doesn't get an idea... ;) )
Once the draft begins, SF and Mia have 24 hours to make a pick. Cle and Chi have 24 hours after SF/Mia pick, not 24 hrs starting the next day! The draft will continue in this way. Maximxum of 24 hr from the previous pick for the next team to choose.
This time is subject to change depending on how long the draft is taking. Please try you best to make your picks as soon as you can. That is why checking the site very often will help.
We'll try to do all 7 rounds, but I hope to get at least Day One (rnd 1-3) complete.
Sign below if you are willing and ABLE to participate. Select your pair from the list above or be granted a pair randomly when the 16 members have been set. If I do not beleive you visit the site regularly, I may not allow you to participate (e.g. you make your first post in 2 years in this thread :D)
Good luck everyone. Stay tuned for more details and please share any idea's own.

I'm concerned about whether or not we'll be able to get enough picks in before the actual draft.
Are there any days where we think we can get EVERYONE (because it doesn't work well even if one person is missing) can be on? Even if we don't do all the rounds, if we could knock down 3 rounds or so in 1 day that could help a lot. I can do it on one of the weekends (April 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, or 17th)

I believe I heard we are not doing trades this year
that's correct... last year we had so many trades that people forgot when they had picks or not.
Looks like this is the "Love of the game" draft. :D There is a new one in HC (wrong fourm) getting all the flash, hype, and monopoly money... but this is where it's really at. ;)
Well organized, efficient, loyal.
This is the New England Patriots of Mock Drafts, that "other one" by "that other guy" is more like the Washington Redskins Mock. :lowblow:
Bring it on.

ATN: EVERYONE WITH A TEAM
Just a reminder, the draft will begin Saturday night... and I may change the time to begin earlier if everyone is OK with that. The more people we can get to show up on one day the more picks we can make and the faster we can finish this thing.
I will send PM's as reminders... and if you could PM me AIM screen names and/or email addresses that will also help me contact and remind people of the draft.
If you do not participate, your team will be forfeited, and there are many willing rangers ready to snatch them up.

I don't know if this is an official rule or not, but i could this be the outside chatter thread and have only selections on the mock board? It would get kind of cluttered if people started making comments over there besides their picks.

April 2nd, 2005, 7:52:26 PM
That's pretty much what I was thinking too. Good idea.
If someone posts more than their pick and who is after them then the post will be edited by me, moved, or deleted (depending on my mood :D)
That will make things easier and it will help people determine who has been drafted.
I will also be updating the first post of that thread showing who has been selected when I get the chance (or if another mod wants to they may also)

here's a proposal.... we could try to do 4 teams a person instead of 2 and then we'll have enough GM's to do it all tonight... but everyone who is here would have to be on for awhile and it might piss off the other owners (although they did not show up so they screwed themselves)

ik..... but i also said i wanted everyone here tonight to get a head start. we can wait if we want (we have until the 23rd to finish) but i am worried it still won't get done.

Mouldsie, what ever you decide is fine with me. I was hoping a few picks would have been made by now. I was thinking it might be a good idea to schedule 4-6 picks an hour to keep things moving and take out some of the unknown. It would work like this;
4/2 9:00 PM picks 1-6 The three GM's need to make their picks before 10 pm
10 PM picks 7-12 etc,
That way we know if we have the 8th & 9th picks for example, we need to be here between 10-11, if not you or the bullpen can fill in

I think it was working out great, Wally, who is dumb as a doornail, held all of us up with anticipation. It was 12:00 AM EST when I last checked and didn't see any action. If I was MR, u'd have no more than a couple of hrs. The date and time were set, you don't miss any other appointments.

I still think it can be done easier in a chat room. Set a time, whoever shows, shows, and will be the GM's. Then we decide who will pick for what teams, and then start selecting players. Tain't no big deal.

So wait, because the very first person on the draft board is taking a while you want to change how you are running the draft all together?
Let me note 2 of the rules:
24 hours to make selection
You get replaced if you miss your first round pick
The first rule has yet to be broken. The second one can come into play if it is. We have 3 weeks until the real draft, and as far as I can tell from the way you set up this mock, it wasn't supposed to be a lightning fast process.
I think the way it is right now is fine, lets just be patient with it. I probably know the Jets and the Broncos needs (my two assigned teams) better than any other team in the league other than the Bills right now, I don't want this knowledge to go to waste!

Hey, I only disussed the possibility of changing (because those that did show up were ready to go and couldn't so I felt bad).
It's continuing as normal.
If we are not halfway done by the 13th, then I will set a date and go with polgard's idea. At that point we'll eitehr continue with what has been picked or start over.... whatever you guys want.
p.s. gr8slayer you suck and at least mine is still on :D
p.s.s. bill8164, don't make me ban you with my mod powers. ;)

Wally was just here and didn't pick. Damn him.
BTW guys, I will be in school mon-fri until about 6:30 pm (another reason I liked the idea of doing as much as possible in one night) so if somebody misses a pick in that time span look to see if anyone from the backup list is online and if so, tell them they now may take over those 2 teams (if none of them are on then anyone who is already a GM can make the selections and I'll sort it out when I get home). bad radio is next in line and may be taking over for Wally or SweetLee at this rate.

Wally's 24 hrs are up.
bad radio can take the team if he wants. Followed by cjbs, and bill8164. they have until the 2nd round to claim the teams or anyone can have them.
Sweetlee is up next.

if sweetlee doesn't make the picks on time, i would like to take cleveland/chicago (the two places i grew up) and whoever is next in line can have Houston and Carolina.
Though if it's easier to just draft the next picks, or you like one of the teams, take them.

that's cool, he has 10 minutes and if he doesn' show up then you can have cle/chi and the next guy will get your teams.

There are non-stop posts being made on the range. You would think some of those people were in this draft. I sure thought so, with how fast the draft filled up when MOULDSROCKS opened it up.
It really doesn't take that much time to post 2 names (this means you, Wally and SweetLee).

2 days, 2 no shows, 4 picks. Why would someone sign up for this, get the top picks and not show for 2 days. Mouldsie, I hope you remember these guys when we sign up for next year's mock. Then again, at this pace, this may already be next year's draft.

255 picks at 2 a day means 128 days. At this pace we will finish this August 8th, 2005.

i like the chat room idea.
but for those who have lost hope,
does anyone remember last year? it was a very similar situation. (people giving up and everything)
things are likely to pick up.
(wasn't great, but finished the first two rounds, and part of the third)

It was definitely a good move by Mouldsrock to have everyone select two picks at a time. I agree it will probably pick up some steam as we go. In the mean time if anyone's hanging around they can vote in the mock draft poll i set up. http://www.buffalorange.com/showthread.php?t=67350

Is Polgard or EmBills supposed to make this pick now ? The list of picks shows polgard with Dallas and the Giants, but this pick is the Chargers' because of the Manning / Rivers trade. I suspect there is confusion.
