League, NHLPA meet in New York in attempt to salvage season

CANADIAN PRESS

NEW YORK - Labour talks to save the 2004-05 season between the NHL and the Players' Association resumed this morning, just three days after the league cancelled the campaign.
The latest round of negotiations began at 9 a.m. at an undisclosed downtown New York location.

They come amid reports that the basis of a deal including a $45-million US salary cap was already in place, something denied strongly by both sides.

Until tonight, when it's learned that Gordie Howe has dug up Howard Ballard and King Clancy, and they're hammering out a late night burger and a new deal. Press conference slated for 11 am tomorrow.

Nothing comes easy for the "Garage League" NHL.Their mentality alone makes that impossible. So the rollercoaster ride continues I really need that motion sickness medication now! The powers that be are :bs:

Well they've already driven away the "fringe" fans through this entire debacle. Now with this latest news about how the season will be "un"canceled, but it still remains "canceled" to this point is making the NHL look even more pathetic than it already is. All fans of hockey are getting sick and tired of being raked through the freaking coals. If the season was canceled, as pathetic as it is, then just leave it at that. Are they having another meeting??? Are Guerin and Brett Hull or Lemieux and Gretzky meeting in some dark movie theater in Iowa to save some 18 game season? Who cares until there actually is an agreement?! I'd really rather not know about it until they fix the problem. With all of the sh!+ talking that is going on between Betteman and Goodenow, I think the WWF has more credibility as a true sport than this pathetic piece of crap of a league, which for some reason I worship. This league is a joke, the powers that be are a joke, the players that are in denial about how terrible the economics of the game are are a joke, and the owners that have allowed the payrolls for certain teams and players get as big as they are are a joke.

I'm damn close to saying - **** the NHL. Give me a new league.

I don't think the players are in denial so much as the negotiating tactics by their union head were simply stupid. After the last CBA and the owners reputation for caving when the heat is on, the message circulated was outwait the owners and theyll crumble again and the players trusted Goodenow and followed suit. I'll bet if you put the owners last deal to a vote the players would pass it.
