Well! Flutie's OFFICIALLY a LOSER!!!

This is the one thread that I'm allowed to start each week, so I figured I'd make it a good one! Lots of mileage! Actually, it's tough to do any more than Flutie already has done to hurt his own cause.

Flutie, leading the Chargers to a whopping 17 points, joining the Giants, K.C., and Dallas as the only teams to score less than 20 points vs. the 27th ranked (scoring) and 30th ranked (yardage) Arizona D. K.C. and the Giants only scored their 16 and 17 IN Arizona as well.

Flutie, ONCE AGAIN, UNABLE to put many points on the board and unable to get the Chargers down into the red zone routinely. The Chargers may not win another game this year the way their playing w/ Flutie at the helm. They just can't score w/ him in there. Funny, that never impacted "his" ability to win before! HMMMMM!!!

Lots of yards, just not lots of points. 4 STRAIGHT!

Here's a little tidbit from Mort at ESPN:

"Mort: Cool Brees throwing:

Drew Brees might be much closer to being ready than even his supporters believed. The Chargers think he is a natural and that his four seasons as a starter at Purdue have him well prepared for success. However, Mike Riley is not likely to rock the boat with GM John Butler by benching Doug Flutie. At the end of the season though, look for Riley to be fired, Norv Turner to be promoted and Brees to open the 2002 season at quarterback."

2 tough road games @ Seattle, then @ Philly, then Oakland at home, then @ K.C., and closing w/ Seattle at home! Doesn't look good for the mullet!!!

I'd say 5-10 w/ a shot at a win at home to finish out the season, especially if Seattle is out of it.

Surprises me that Riley would rather go down w/ the ship than admit that perhaps he and Butler didn't make the best call and begin to give Brees a shot. It should be fairly apparent by now that Flutie's contributions on offense are nominal, and that all this "Flutie Magic" never existed to begin with! The dream run is over, as predicted, as even I could not have realistically thought that the Chargers would lose to the Cards at home!

Disgraceful! Looks like Flutie will leave this league a LOSER on one of the worst finishes to a season in the history of the game!!!

That's a Shame!!!

I wonder what the fans are saying now!!!

What a gwan brethren, looks like me and you were right about flutie pulling the wool over everyone's eye's. Flutie showed that he is just an average qb, that is over hyped by the media. You gotta love his quote after last weeks loss, "we have to play better". This is some of the evidence I was refering to when I said that flutie never accepts the responsibility for loses and blaims others. Riley is a stright up idiot for sticking with flutie, if it's going to cost him his job. Clearly Brees is the better qb, and I guess the magics run out. Flutie didn't score enough points to win aginst the 29th ranked total defense, and 25th in passing defense in the nfl according to nfl.com. I predicted that S.D. would finish 7-9 and I stick by my prediction. All I have to say is where are all the flutie backers now!! (tackling dummy, bduff, etc) Were's your boy now? He just an average qb, and now everyone is seeing the truth.

they totally should have one that game, did anyone of you watch it. i watched the entire game and there is honestly no way you can blame flutie for that game. he was on fire he completed 13 passes in a row, he had no running game either. his recievers dropped about 10 passes. in all honesty he really played well, if this was RJ or somebody else ou guys would be praising him i don't understand.

call me what you want a "ff" or wahtever. he did not lose that game for them, he was their best player for god's sake. did any of you actually watch the game? wys i know your opinion on this but you didn't wath the game did you?

November 26th, 2001, 1:50:56 PM
OUTSTANDING!!!

17 points each week will get them to 0-16 to 2-14. Only K.C. scored fewer and that was in Arizona, a HORRIBLE D. S.D. should easily have scored 24 vs. them!

In "Flutie Speak": 5-6; 2-6 the last 8. He's a loser!

BTW, I DID watch the game. Lots of ironies I'd say!

Besides, Flutie did what he's always done: Namely lead the team to 13-17 points! Can we really expect more!

November 26th, 2001, 1:52:44 PM
I think that's pretty clear by now in spite of your denial of such!

later wys, too bad i guess your prediction of flutie didn't go as planned this week. i know it hurts that he was extremely accurate. too bd he can't run it in the endzone for the recievers. he's awful man i think everything you say is right.;)

November 26th, 2001, 2:44:03 PM
My prediciton: 55% compl, 190 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT

Actuals: 75% compl., 308 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT

I'd say that isn't too bad since I had the TDs right on the numbers.

Where did you post yours???

You didn't you say? Oh, sorry! I thought for a minute there that YOURS was far more accurate! Silly me to think that you'd actually put one up!

wys, you would call that a bad game for a qb? listen man recievers and runningbacks have to make plays? he can't get it in the endzone himself, i can give you predictions if you want, do you really think that your prediction was even close? your way off man, 75% that is very impressive. wys i don't mean to harp on this all the time, but why can't you admit he played well that's all i want, you are being ignorant if you can't admit that.

you also said L.t. would run all over them, if you ask me you were as far off about this game as possible, nice try though.:D

Do I think that an offense that put up 17 points vs. Arizona at home is impressive? NO! Absolutley not, especially considering that they were coming off a big week! AZ that is.

17 points vs. AZ? YOU think THAT is good?

He played OK. I'm willing to admit that he played OK in this game if you are willing to admit that he played like crap in the Washington game??

Well?

10 of 18, 129, 0 TDs, 2 INTs

Yet the Skins won! You can't have it both ways; ie., he gets credit for "leading" the O in one game even though his personal contribution was negative; and conversely having his played well in spite of the loss. That's the thing w/ this "Flutie logic."

November 26th, 2001, 10:28:11 PM
Hey,

Maybe people will start buying more Flutie Flakes if you start throwing in your sauce to improve them..

I think that Reilly is going to be fired and Turner will become the head coach....I always thought Butler wanted him as head coach anyway..

November 26th, 2001, 10:39:10 PM
Sounds like you may be right! Mort at ESPN agrees w/ you. Sounds viable. Turner got a bum deal at Washington and probably deserves another chance. If that happens, then Brees will definitely replace Flutie as the starter since that's the type of QB, the Aikman type, that Turner likes anyway.

Either way, unless Flutie REALLY lights things up against some very tough teams, I think he's done. He may not get cut, but nobody else will want him and I just don't see him handling the backup thing very gracefully.

i totally agree, i think flutie is done aswell. i don't think he can beat a top d like tampa or baltimore. i just can't stand it when people bash players for absolutely no reason, especially one that played for us and quarterbacked our team to the playoffs, where is the loyalty?:D

November 27th, 2001, 10:51:22 AM
Well, to that, I guess I have a problem w/ players who stir things up against fellow teammates and place self-interests above team interests. It's one thing to believe something in your heart, which I would expect from someone who is competitive. It's another altogether to make those things public and to cause dissention amongst the ranks sheerly for purposes of self-advancement!

If you want to see such a situation handled gracefully, look at Bledsoe. I don't care for Bledsoe as a QB, although he has a great arm. But as far as being a person, HE'S a winner! The difference between the way he and Flutie and how they CHOSE to handle things is polar in nature.

;)

The way "his fans" behaved is a different matter altogether.

Blesoe also didn't take his team to the playoffs then get pulled for an unproven QB. flutie hada right to be mad. and Bledsoe is no angel, he went to Bob kraft about the decision. he whined to the owner about belicheks decision. what is that? but i believe he deserves his job back aswell, if you get an injury for your team you deserve your role back.

November 27th, 2001, 2:01:49 PM
Look, Flutie was blessed to have been able to make a name and reputation in this league by having played w/ the #1 D that entire year. He was still ONLY 10-5 in spite of that.

If he had played for an average D that year, he would have been lucky to have been .500 playing the way he had played. REALLY!
