Of course I love seeing kids stay in college and finish their education. However, this is a very risky move. The kid would have been the top pick in the draft (most likely). You can't go higher than #1. He already has two National titles and a Heisman Trophy. And you can always pursue your degree while playing professional sports. Emmitt Smith did it. Vince Carter did it in the NBA.

I applaud the decision, but don't necessarily agree with it. I wish him the best and pray he does not get hurt and ruin the opportunity he had (and still has) to make millions of dollars and support his family for the next few generations.

Good luck, Matt.

And by the way.....USC will be sick next season! They have almost all their skill kids back. WOW!

i dont blame him, college is fun. I am sure he has insurance and will be rich if he gets hurt anyway. This method worked ok for Payton Manning as I recall.

i heard on some sports radio that he will have enough credits to get his degree after the spring semester... But I do think its a good idea for him to stay in school..

That's true with a lot of guys.

He'll most likely have to enroll in Grad School or take some other "degree-enhancement" type courses in order to play in the fall.

It doesn't surprise me with Leinart. Kid will probably own his own company someday and not even have to worry about an NFL paycheck.

College athletics needs more student-athletes like him.

i think if he was from a poor background he would have went. its easier when your family isnt desperate for money to stay.

I don't blame him, the 49ers have the first pick in the draft. Unless he pulled a Eli Manning and said he won't play there he was going to have a real rough start to his NFL career. So he stays in school, wins another championship, and hopes the 49ers or Cards don't get the first pick in the 2006 draft.
