So! Let's see!
Arizona has the:
30th ranked yardage D
27th ranked scoring D
27th ranked rush D
26th ranked pass D
I think that's low and poor enough for Flutie to "be a winner" again here in this game!! If history serves me, he should have a fairly decent game. He should make Tomlinson play better vs. that tough, tough rush D allowing 132 yards per game.
That should allow the biased media the opportunity to give Flutie credit for opening up the running game due to his razor-sharp passes by virtue of that incredible passing game we've seen over the past few weeks!! He'll be "back" I'm sure after this game against a likely tough, tough Playoff caliber opponent!
26th ranked pass D?! That ought to allow for Ego Boy to toss a couple of TDs.
OH, and did I mention that AZ's punting game is ranked 23rd in the league. I'm sure that will allow Doug to make the punt returners play better too and set him up w/ outstanding field position so that he can once again be a winner w/ drives starting at the opponents half of the field.
Of course how the D plays has nothing to do w/ the outcome in Flutie's Fantastical World! So no need to give them any credit in this game for possibly setting the O up to win it!
I say the Charger offense puts up 27 in this game. STs or D may also add another bunch of points vs. this MIGHTY AZ team to demonstrate how much better they play w/ Flutie on the field. So if that sketchy Arizona Offense can match, they have a chance to win it. I'll say that Ego Boy has 2 TDs passing, 1 INT, in a game where he REALLY lights it up for 190 yards. Of course, his real contributions will be his making or at least enabling Tomlinson to run for 160 yards or so vs. that mighty rush D that Arizona touts!
Keep in mind, that it's ONLY Flutie who can hand off the ball SO WELL that Tomlinson will have those kind of numbers! I'm not even sure if Warner or McNabb could complete those handoffs well enough to get Tomlinson over 100 vs. this D that is allowing 132 ypg rushing!
Anyone else have predictions for this game? Come on! It's easy this week b/c Flutie gets to play another cake team and therefore "he" does well! Once again, he'll LIFT the level of play of the other parts of the team, the parts that rank categorically in the top half of the league from 1st to 16th, he'll lift their play up this week so that he doesn't have to carry the load with another one of his stellar passing efforts that ranks near the bottom of the league! It's a good thing he's the one responsible for the STs, D, and running game play! Otherwise I'd say he's just a very poor QB. But it's those intangibles, like his telepathical powers causing defenders to miss on kickoff returns. I've seen it. While the team is on the field, Ego Boy's off to the side w/ his head in his hands, doing something tantamount to a vulcan mind-meld to force coverage men to miss. The sad thing is that his fellow team mates rarely acknowledge those abilities since they're so hard to put your finger on. But WE know! Those of us in Buffalo have all personally experienced the "magic." And there's no pullin' the wool over our eyes!
Maybe, just maybe, the rest of the team shows up this week and gives Doug a hand and helps him by complementing those 40% compl. 100 yard, 1-4 INT passing games that really deserve to win ballgames so much. The STs is really gonna have to step up this week. 7 points a game on returns just isn't acceptable in this league. S.D., Flutie, they really need to be able to count on 10-17 points on returns from them in order for them to justify their contributions to games here. Also, it's a real shame that Flutie's had to start drives on his own end of the field more times than not this year. That's just unacceptable. Their STs coach should be fired after this year!
Once again, Ego Boy gets 55% compl, 190 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT in a game that would normally be deserving of HoF status in and of itself! I mean if he actually achieves those numbers vs. this TOUGH, TOUGH D, man, I just won't know what to say! My hat will go off to him, especially for making Tomlinson ante-up finally. 6th leading rusher in the NFL as a rookie! Why, that's just downright unacceptable. And Tomlinson will soon learn that he's gonna have to do much better than that if he expects to play in the NFL for long!
Flutie's GOT to start getting some support from that 6th leading rusher, the #1 ranked STs scoring unit, and their D which is ranked in the top half of the league. How on earth can Flutie continue to be a winner when they aren't all #1 in their categories! Shameful! Oh, well, except for their KR unit. They'll have to simply score more since they're already #1. They simply aren't holding up their end of the deal!
