View Full Version : Since no one seems to be mentioning it... Flutie's not doing so hot himself....

In his loss to Oakland this week:
Flutie 12/27 98 yards 0 TD 1 INT
He's also lost the last three games in a row... he's now 5-5...
Yeah, the Chargers do have a better record than the Bills do right now... but they hardly look like playoff material, as some Flutie Freaks were spouting off about a few weeks ago.
The Bills and the Chargers are in two very different situations right now. In my opinion, the Bills are building towards a very high quality team... even though they look very bad right now. I still think RJ will get this offense down as he has shown he's started to in a few of our games... give us a couple years.
Flutie and the Chargers might be as good as they're gonna get in awhile... unless Brees gets good really fast....
Bottom line... Flutie's showing right now... he does not have what it takes right now to bring any team to a championship...

Just a little FYI: This is a Buffalo Bills board.

I know... I just wanted to pointout why he's no better a choice than RJ for our team... that's all... my post is really about the Bills and the fact that I fel they're going in the right direction... they just need time...

Who cares? He's 39 years old, and if you ask me I say that he STILL resurrected that organization.
Plus, IMO, the Raiders are the best team in the league. I specifically remember two very well thrown balls where the defender came in at the last second to knock them away, and if those plays had have been made by a Bills player we'd all be saying "great defensive play".
Also, Flutie throws the ball away when he's in trouble. Not like someone we know who has a better pass % but gets sacked once every 7 pass attempts (compared to our "backup" who takes a sack once every 43 attempts.)
This is a Bills board anyway.

That's not really why they got him. They needed some leadership. They got that. How can a team go from 1-15 to the SB in an off-season?

I thought I was talking about the Bills... if I made a mistake in posting about it, I apologize...
November 19th, 2001, 5:52:46 PM
Don't apologize! I was playing Devil's advocate. ;)

Ben Judah,
Don't sweat it man! I hear ya! Go check out the "Smackdown"! I haven't missed a beat over there and we've got it covered. These guys will talk about Flutie as it suits their needs.
You are correct, there are parallels to be drawn.
Rude,
"Flutie throws the ball away when he's in trouble."
His problem is that he throws the ball away when he tries to hit his WRs too!!!
HE BLOWS!!! This year should remove ALL doubt that he was STRICTLY a benefactor of GREAT STs and D that he's just not getting as much of in S.D. Those are still the strengths of the Chargers, however they are not as good as they were while he was w/ the Bills. Particularly in '99 w/ our #1 D! He is playing a tad bit better than Leaf however...

Well, he's not THAT insanely bad... just wouldn't be making this team win much more than it is currently...
November 20th, 2001, 12:02:57 AM
Until he starts beating some decent teams, he IS just that bad sorry to say. I've seen at least 4 games of his this year and parts of others; Frankly, he should NOT be starting for ANY team. He is personally responsible for NO LESS than 4 losses. What that means is that any other average QB on the Chargers would have won those 4 games resulting in a 9-1 or 8-2 record. The Chargers are a solid QB away from challenging for their division. Really!
They have a top 10 D, their STs are playing probably the best STs in the league or top 3 FOR SURE! The returns, both on punts AND KOs is astonishing! LDT is an animal, and that's coming from someone who thought he'd be average at best. The ONLY reason he isn't doing better is that in the games that he hasn't rushed for much, Flutie can only manage "league low" passing output!
S.D.'s OL is not nearly as bad as the media says! Flutie has 6-10 seconds ROUTINELY!!!! Watch if you don't believe me. Not every play, but often. Against decent pass rushes I might add. Yeah, their OL can use some improvement, but they're much better than advertised or that I thought they would be.
Instead, FLUTIE'S TOs have directly lost 3 games for the Chargers, which, had they not occurred, they would have won.
S.D. has beaten teams w/ a combined 16-30. That BLOWS!! Just watch the game this Sunday! Even though they are only playing Arizona, I guarantee you that Flutie is the weak link once again. They will probably win, but it won't be b/c of Flutie.

I figured you arse would be so red by now that you wouldn't be able to sit down for weeks!!

Doug might not be able to beat the good teams anymore, but Rob never could have and never will be able to.. ah, forget it. :D

rude, you know why those "good" throws by df are getting knocked down or intercepted ? well let me tell ya, his ARM SUCKS.
November 20th, 2001, 11:22:12 AM
Rude,
Take the "anymore" out of your last statement and it is correct as far as Flutie goes...
;)
Rob HAS beaten some good teams. He beat Indy in '99. He beat S.F. in '99. He beat K.C. last year IN K.C. where it's VERY tough to play. He beat G.B. last year. Tennessee last year. He played T.B. in Tampa, tougher than Doug has EVER played even though it was a loss. He even only played about 3 Qs. Actually, we were in it UNTIL Doug came in, and ONLY then did we get out of it really quickly.
S.F. in '98 was a better team than Flutie EVER beat at 12-4.
Not good teams???
Uhhuh...
Objectivity my man!!!

Flutie having a weak arm is the biggest misconception on this entire board. Take it from me.. a guy who can toss a baseball from the hot corner like a big leager. Like WYs knows wing sauce, I know arm-strength! Boy, I love these italics capabilities! :D
November 20th, 2001, 11:29:19 AM
Flutie? Arm strength?
Well, I'll give it to ya, it hasn't been weak this year!
It's his mental game and "bumblingness" that's costing S.D. games!

wys, we both no he is playing bad. i agree with ya, but wouldn't you like to see him do well, i always liked the little guy. he did alot for the community. i don't want him as our QB but i stiull want to see him do well. why so much hatred?
November 20th, 2001, 11:33:36 AM
I think Wys is mad cuz Doug started a wing sauce company, lol.

speaking of those.. this overheard in the locker room before a Bills game...
"Have a good game Rob!"
"Ya."
"So, what are you going to do when you're in trouble? Throw the ball away or take the sack?."
"Ya."
"Throw it away or take the sack, Rob?"
"Ya."
"No, it can't be both, Rob. Are you going to throw the ball away or take the sack?"
"Ya."
"Throw the ball away?"
"Ya."
"Or take the sack?"
"Ya."

The Raiders have a better team. They have a better team than all of the NFL teams out there. Found myself cheering for Rice. Good showing he had on Sunday!
November 20th, 2001, 11:59:22 AM
What does the Raiders having a better team have to do w/ anything? Flutie LOST!! Plain and simple...

Uh . . . . quite often the better team wins.
Rice was just awesome!
November 20th, 2001, 2:34:21 PM
That's funny Bogus! You are a hardcore FF. It's funny that when RJ had to play ALL the toughest teams last year, he doesn't get consideration for that!
Dismissed!!!
Can you say "hypocrisy!"

Okay. Try one more time WYS. In what way am I a hypocrite?
November 21st, 2001, 12:58:45 PM
FF logic is in general there Bogus. When you take that side, what happens is that the logic originally used that only considers sacks and wins, but dismisses ALL else to develop an argument against RJ, all of a sudden becomes valid when it's applied to Flutie when sacks aren't making a difference, and the wins just aren't coming.
Then ALL of the things dismissed in argumentation before once again start to become valid. That's hypocritical.
Doesn't matter who takes that side, that's what it's been.
;)

November 21st, 2001, 1:24:16 PM
Now, see, that's where the problem lies. I'm not taking any side. You assume you know what my opinion is but you don't. That's why I'm confused. I'm not even sure what the official FF position is on everything. Is there a handbook? :)
Furthermore, this business about "ALL of the things dismissed in argumentation before once again start to become valid" is something that you are guilty of -- maybe more than anyone else -- if what you mean is that people claim your point in defense of RJ is invalid until they want to use it to defend DF.(that's the most confusing sentence I've read in a while besides this one: "FF logic is in general there Bogus.") I will admit to doing that myself. Seems like just about everyone on this board does.
November 23rd, 2001, 12:12:16 AM
If you're not taking any side, then why on earth do you care what I say about another team's QB?
Besides, I think you could have fooled quite a few posters here. You are known for defending Flutie here. Just a heads up!
