The on-again-off-again mating dance between the Miami Dolphins and LSU coach Nick Saban is on again.

ESPN.com has learned that Saban and club officials met for several hours Tuesday night at an undisclosed location. While the Dolphins did not offer Saban the job, they made clear in precise terms that he is their No. 1 target.

Discussions are expected to continue over the next few days as Saban wrestles with the question of moving back to the NFL, where he hasn't coached since the end of the 1994 season, or retaining one of college football's top jobs. It figures be a difficult decision for Saban, who has been treated extremely well by LSU officials, and who thoroughly enjoys his job there.

Again, the Dolphins are doing this backwards.....For some reason ole wayne Huizenga strongly believes that he needs a coach who has all of the control, when he has ample proof aroiund the league that a one man operation does not work......

Look at all of the coaches who have been able to "shop for the groceries" as Parcells onec said and how they have failed miserably. It has been the downfall of the dolphins since JJ.

I live in So Fla and I LOVE the fact that they continue to run themselves into the ground.

Now all they need to do is re-hire Marino as President and I will be a happy man........

Go Dolphins.....NOT

Well, to be honest, (arguably) the top three coaches in the league right now (Andy Reid, Bill Bellichick, and Bill Cowher) all have a lot of or all the say in the "shopping for groceries" department.

It can work but you need to surround yourself with good personnel guys and listen to what they have to say.

Saban is too smart not to surround himself with great football people.

A Belichick clone who has a NFL background and an intense passion for football and winning with a great defensive scheme.

Gosh, I really hope Miami doesn't get a guy like a THAT to be their next HC.

I have a hard time seeing Saban leaving after the contract he just got.

It seems almost criminal for a man named Saban to coach the Miami Dolphins.
